Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Delirium Dive Sundays

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm off to SSV next week, any info on Delirium Dive Sundays, who to contact ?
There were 3 of us originally going but 2 cant go due change in circumstances.
Bob had done the Dive 7 times previously and now cant make it.
I have all the info from him on helmets, transceivers, probes, shovels etc.
Just wondered how many Snow-heads have been and would like to share their knowledge.
Been watching shed loads of Vids on the Dive so well aware of the terrain but there is nothing like the real thing.
Thanks. snowHead

I have skied Delirium Dive plenty of times. You can just wait by the gate until somebody wants to buddy up with you. When I went you needed a transceiver to open the gate to the area. The route finding was obvious and I believe it is avalanche controlled. What I skied was enjoyable, steepish in parts at the top and with nice powder. It is a nice little bit of controlled sort of off piste skiing - bit hard to describe really. I far preferred the super steeps and various options in Lake Louise. These areas are avalanche controlled and had some great mornings just lapping the various little gulleys and couloirs. You should have a great time.

AJQ, I really enjoyed the runs called the 'ultimate steeps' these are on the back bowls, they are avalanche controlled. They are accessed from Whitehorn II from I think the Summit Platter drag lift. They are double black diamonds. Obvious easy route finding, good steep skiing in a avalanche controlled environment. I would ski the various steeps to the blue/green run at the bottom. You then take a chairlift up, and ski to the Summit Platter 't' bar - I think. I hope this helps. We were about the only people there!

AJQ,

I really enjoyed the boomerang bowl too. That involved a small hike on a ridge to a really nice little bowl - obvious route finding. When it had snowed we waited by the avalanche control peoples lodges until we could access the steeps. LL is very nice.

Agree with JayDub, I preferred the runs at Louise and thought they were steeper than DD. DD is worth a look if you have the gear and a buddy, but my favourite was Paradise Bowl at Louise. I don't recall Ultimate - is that a recent addition (maybe we found enough to do on Paradise, we were only there for a day before we drove to KH).

Thanks, is Kicking Horse on the all area pass for Banff?

No, you need to buy a Kicking Horse lift pass. There are day trips including bus and lift pass from Banff if you don't have a car. There are leaflets in all the hotels. They pick you up from your hotel and drop off again- a good day out, particularly with the weather we're having..

The TriArea pass covers LL, SSV and Nakiska.

Just got a reply from Ski Banff dot com.
They are looking for $400 half day, or $600 (full day instruction Only) for DD !!!
Does this sound reasonable or are they partaking of the Michael ? ( taking the Pee One Sierra Sierra)
They are looking for a group of 5 or 6 to make it viable, wont accommodate you for another day if the day you choose is closed for what ever reason but will take you to another "Equivalent Slope"

This will be my first visit to the Dive, although I did go up the great divide to go down the steps and have a wee nosey last year.
I think personally they are covering there bottoms ......
Seems a bit over the top to me but if it really is safety orientated then I cant complain.
I guess similar to some of the Piste to Powder threads which say they are really expensive too ?
All advice, thoughts most appreciated.

AJQ, you'd get nearly a week with P2P for that price. That's extraordinarily expensive. Sounds to me like a racket.
