Poster: A snowHead

Hi all,
I've seen on the eurostar website that you are allowed to take a bottle of wine, a few beers or a bottle of spirit to drink on the train.
I was therefore wondering if anyone has experience of taking extra alcohol in your packed luggage for the week? I'd like to take a bottle of scotch and a bottle of sloe gin for our hip flasks, but was wondering if they'd search bags or ski bags, and if they found them would they confiscate them?
Also, as we're getting on at Ashford, are we going to be in a bit of trouble with fitting our suitcases and ski bags on?
Thanks,
Lewis.

I don't think they would care. You could check with Eurostar if you're really concerned.
You shouldn't have a problem getting your bags on. They reserve a couple of seats in each carriage to increase the luggage storage available on these trains.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Sweet, thanks. I'll just take them and hope for the best.

I dont think they are really bothered as long as its in your bags and they are quick to x-ray them, I spread mine out between my bags to be sure.
Think they put the limits to prevent people turning up carrying crates of beers or cases of wine! Aslong as you dont take the pee with how much you take I think they are fine.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The alcohol restriction is so you don't get trollied whilst on the train and from my experience they don't care what you take with you otherwise.

If you try to get on with a sack truck stacked with cans you might have problems but we've never had any issues getting on Eurostar trains - even in fancy dress and clutching off licence carrier bags.

Haha, two 18 year olds, a 21 year old and two 50 year olds with a few bottles of wine and few bottles of spirits should be alright then

I printed their frequently asked questions yesterday from the Eurostar website. It says "There are NO restrictions on taking food and drink on board Eurostar"
However it does say that as all items must pass through the xray machines on departure drinks must be in sealed containers.

Odd one that. A few friends went first class one year and were plied so much free booze on the way down they were still rather drunk when they got to Les Arcs. And if I drank a bottle of wine, a few beers and even looked at a bottle of spirits then so would I.

It's not a problem whatever you take on Eurostar provided it's within your 2 bags + skis allowance

Also, I was heading to Bordeaux at the weekend for my other half's birthday. We get a direct train from St Pancras to gatwick airport so as we had some time to kill decided to stop and eat at the long bar on the platform right next to the Bourg St Maurice overnight ski train.
I've been meaning to do this direct ski train for a while so made a point of looking at how full the luggage racks above the seats were (with a view to taking my skis and heading there for a day before the end of the season)
It looked like there was plenty of space. This was last Friday (28th February)
