Poster: A snowHead
|
Help and advice required! First time poster so I would really appreciate any advice or tips anyone has. We have booked a trip staying in Plagne Village (catered chalet with Silverski) for March with our very keen 4 year old. It looks like Snow Kindergarten is the place for him but I'm not sure what to expect? Is Plagne Village a good one or should we look elsewhere. Do we have to be with him all morning or providing he's happy do we leave him to it? Will toilets be within close reach? Are they on skis for the duration.? What do the times tend to be (the website is rubbish for info)? Outside Kindergarten what other facilities are recommended and are they in easy reach off the pistes? Many thanks all

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Davemason, I took my youngest to La Plagne for her first ever skiing when she was four just turning five and she loved it. We were staying in Plagne Centre and used Oxygene ski school and she progressed to skiing all blues by the end of week one. The kindergarten ski area at Villages always looked good when I passed it skiing down and never over populated. It's all ski in out which is good for your little one and pretty straight forward.
We booked the Terra Nova Hotel with Crystal TO two years on the trot and got exceptionally good deals booking early with free kids places. The back door of Terra Nova exits straight onto the green nursery run at Centre. Oxygene at Centre were very organised and great with the kids. They come highly recommended with quite a few English Instructors and the French Instructors all speak good English.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes - you should leave them to it. You hovering is not going to help AT ALL. Drop off, go have some adult time (skiing) then pick him up at the end of his session.

Whatever you end up doing I agree with boardiac, When I dropped my youngest on the first morning of lessons ever she was crying and in a right mood. I thought we were in for a week of grief but came back at lunch and she was laughing and having a great time. She could ski the green nursery slope and loved it. Never looked back.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for all your posts , really appreciate it! Do we have to hire skis for him beforehand or do the ski schools provide?

Davemason, you will need to hire skis, they are not provided by ski schools.

Davemason, maybe get some info on the ski schools/kindergartens in Plagne Village specifically - La Plagne is a huge area, you will need a ski school close to where you are staying. Toilets can pose a problem - with all those clothes on! Make sure he can cope, and don't give him too much to drink just beforehand. Little choc bar in the pocket. Take spare mittens (much better than gloves)

I'd take jirac18's advice and go with Oxygene. Having worked for Mark Warner in La Plagne during the 2012/13 season, it is where they sent, and still do send, all their children that are looked after by the childcare there and having read reviews from parents of kids of all ages. They are highly rated! Its easily located in Plagne Centre. Enjoy!
