Hi
Which part of Flaine is closest the lifts? Looking at booking Flaine but we don't know the layout.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I would look at the apartments in Flaine Foret as they are closest to the Grand Vans lift that gives the best access to the rest of the GM.
If you stay in Forum then you have to get a slow yoghurt pot lift up to Foret first.
there are some lifts in Forum, they serve the main Flaine bowl, which are accessed from Foret by a short red or a longer green.
We stayed in Les Terrasses de Veret apartments and you couldn't get a better location.

Stay in the forum, all the main lifts up in to the bowl run from here, plus most of the bars and restaurants are on this level.
Yes the upper level foret has access to the areas out of the bowl but, you will have to ski down to the forum level for every think else....

We just stayed in the madame vacances les terrasses de veret which is the last apartment block on the flaine foret road, right next to the grand vans lift. It did mean that the last run of the day had to be either the serpentine blue or tourmaline (serpentine was usually in better condition at the end of the day). Easily accessible from either the gm side or up the tetes des verds chair which was the last to close each day.
Would recommend it - and had a nice pool too with a sauna and hot tub without too much extra cost.

Which is MUCH quicker and easier than climbing up to foret if you want the rest of the GM. Its a 1 min piste down.

^^This. Also, Foret has a shopping centre with a Spar, Pizza takeaway and decent Patisserie etc. You can get down to Forum in the evening using free passenger lifts.

If you want to know what's where in Flaine download the brochure from this link - http://www.flaine.com/en/winter/brochures-en-winter-1-15-1.htm and there's a resort map near the end of the brochure which gives exact locations of each block.
Terrasses de Veret is very convenient, but can't be accused of being over-spacious. Try to book bigger than you apparently need, and scout around for a discount code, there are usually some online.

Over Christmas we stayed in a large apartment in Aldebaran in Forum which is the closest block to the GM Express lift. The location was brilliant being right in the middle of everything and we could pop back anytime we wanted, e.g. for a cheap lunch. But the apartment block itself is showing its age and is not that smart - this meant it was comparatively cheap!
Some Foret apartments can be very convenient, but others are a long way from the lift (check on the map already linked to) and getting back can be an issue as the bus goes via the carpark on the way back so you either go round the whole loop or have to walk.

Is any French alpine apartment "over-spacious"? Felt quite good to me in comparison to where I've stayed before (this was an apartment for 6 with two separate bedrooms and a sofa bed in the lounge, accomodation split over 2 floors with a shared bathroom and an ensuite to the downstairs double bedroom).

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Perhaps yours had more room than ours. You couldn't walk round the bed in ours, and there was nowhere at all to store food. Every kitchen cupboard was already occupied by utensils. The lounge area was fine, but had no storage at all for anyone sleeping in the lounge.
In contrast, the place we stayed at in Les Carroz was truly spacious and had loads of storage.

When renting an apartment in France, look at its square-meterage not just the number it sleeps. The apartment we had in Aldebaran was 59m² and claimed to sleep six - I reckon we could have fitted 8 in at least.
