Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice on Skiing holiday. March 2014.

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am a 58 year old woman, fit, healthy and full of life who wants to go skiing next week from 1st March onwards. Ive not been skiing before other than some cross country in Lapland a few years ago - which was only for a few hours. My partner is not interested in Snow or skiing and I'm not giving up on my dreams of going away in the winter skiing. If you have any advice or know of anyone who is looking for some company and also is a beginner I'd be so grateful. Do you know anywhere were I could go where I wont stick out like a sore thumb and look like Billy no mates. Money is a bit of an issue because the single supplements make it so expensive. I'd like some time alone as well; I'm a writer and I like to write wherever I go. I think my ideal holiday would be spending a couple of days learning to ski and some sightseeing and time alone writing. Thanks.

I would think a private room in a chalet specialising in singles would work? You would do group beginner lessons every morning (it's best to do quite a bit your first week so it all sticks, and 5 mornings is the norm) where you would be with lots of other beginners, most of whom probably don't know anyone else in the group so easy to make friends and you won't stand out at all. Then sightseeing and writing in the afternoons then meet the other chalet guests again for dinner every night. One night is chalet staff night off and you could do your own thing for dinner that day (and lunch everyday). Plus it's considered perfectly normal to disappear to your room from about 5pm-dinner so you can do your own thing before dinner. (4-5pm it's customary to come and have a cup of tea and a biscuit and all tell each other amusing and highly exaggerated stories about the amazing trick you did/how rude that man was on the lift/the EPIC offpiste you did above runX etc etc)

I like my alone time too (although I also love to meet people and socialise, just not too much of either at once!) and I think that would work very well for me.

Someone on here specialises in those weeks - I'm sure they'll be along soon....

Good Luck!

Aj xx

Thank you that does sound ideal especially if the place is near interesting town/villages. Hope the person you mentioned does turn up soon. Thanks again a.j. x

That's the one! I thought they were in Vallandry though, no idea why....Have a read up on Les Coches and see if it would suit for your "sightseeing" side of things. Some alpine villages are rather ski focused and nothing else to do at all.

Hi msgs,

Thanks for suggesting us Nicky - hopefully we would suit well.

We have spaces for 9th - 16th March (Chalet Genepi or Chalet Campanules) for £399 and 16th - 23rd March for £450 (Chalet Campanules). Both those prices for your own room with no single supplement.

The chalets are usually friendly and sociable with everyone eating together round a big table in the evening - if you're keen to share with other people travelling by themselves then Campanules might be a better bet as we have solo skiers booked for both weeks there.

I'd agree with AJ that if you haven't skied before you would get more out of the week by doing 5 mornings of lessons - and then choosing whether to ski and/or write in the afternoons. There are also plenty of other things to do including ice skating, cross country skiing, walking, visiting the old village, snow shoeing, massage, bobsleigh - or curling up with a nice glass of wine and a book in the chalet!

You can see more details via the link below but if you have any questions please just drop me through an e-mail and I'll be able to help.

Sorry - we're fully booked for next week. If you're tied to school holidays we do have some Easter spaces 13th - 20th April in Genepi if that helps?
