It is often said that the measure of insurance is not just the offer but the speed of settlement in the event of a claim.
My wife had the mis-fortune to have an accident in the middle of a mogul field in La Plagne on Monday afternoon. A helicopter was called by the piste rescue services and she was helicoptered to the medical centre in Plagne Bellecote.
A quick phone call to Dog Tags medial assistance team and the bill for the helicopter was settled yesterday afternoon and her ski's held as a deposit were returned.
The Dog Tag team were anxious to pick up the med centre and pharmacy bills as well, but I had already paid them with my Credit card. To get these two amounts back I simply have to send in a claim form and receipts.
It's good to know that Dog Tag insurance is recognised by piste rescue and are prepared to settle the bill immediately and also is concerned that I should not be out of pocket.
Needless to say I shall carry on recommending Dog Tag to anyone that wants to listen!
My wife is fine, hobbling around on crutches with a hairline fracture in her ankle and should be good to go again at Easter

boredsurfin, glad to hear she's OK, and that the insurance did what it said on the tin. The only insurance which is "recognized by piste rescue" to the extent that they don't hold your skis as a hostage seems to be Carte/Carre Neige. But they do give them back, once your insurance has paid up!

boredsurfin, sorry to hear about your wife and wish her well for speedily recovering. Good to hear positive experiences with insurance companies.

Although there are some sometimes some negative comments on snowheads about insurance companies doing "anything they can" to "wriggle out of claims" when people report on actual experiences they are usually full of praise, particularly about the big, important things.

But you have to laugh when thinking about it most peoples skis are worth 5 or 6 times less than the helicopter bill!

boredsurfin, mine are worth about 1% of most helicopter bills - but what else can they hang on to?
|
|
|
|
|
|
Mine were knackered-it turned out the springs in the toe binding had broken so they released my boots when they shouldn't have so they were worth around 50p in exchange for a 700 euro bill

Good to hear. Was very unimpressed with the holiday cancellation element of the policy two years ago. That said its when things go wrong it counts

boredsurfin, my skis are worth F all so no intention of trying to ever claim anything for them. Physical ( i.e. body) insurance rocks

boredsurfin, glad the missus is OK. holidayloverxx, I don't think anyone was claiming for their skis, just having them held hostage until they paid the helicopter bill.

we are overdue one of those "My friend's aunt's mother in law was left bleeding and sobbing in the snow until someone produced €800 in used notes" stories. It's been a while....

boredsurfin, really glad the Boss is OK, and that dogtag have been so good looking after her. Recommend them as much as you like to me - but I shan't be using them since they won't cover me because of my not-so-venerable age.

No no, you misunderstand - I know he's full of love for them but he hasn't replaced his wife with Dogtag - even if they are good looking.

Never claimed but have an annual policy with them (as it covers DH mountain biking and the unguided off piste cover wording seems ok) - good to hear positive experience.

boredsurfin, Pleased it worked out well for you and Mrs. BS is OK.
I however shall never use DogTag again.

I have to say I wasn't impressed with the holiday cancellation element but in fairness to dog tag it is subcontracted to a specialist underwriter who were a shambles but who seems to underwrite for many companies. We had a bizarre situation where they had accepted the claim for one of my friends but were rejecting mine until I issued a claim to the ombudsman.

boredsurfin, Glad she's on the mend. Do DogTag have a limit on the days/weeks you are covered?

I've had the top notch annual insurance with Dogtag for years, quite expensive but on the two occasions I've had to make a claim they have paid out swiftly and with no questions asked.
Don't mind paying a little bit extra when you're getting a good product that works.

As some of you will have seen, MrsD ended up in hospital in Turin for four days having pins in abadly broken arm and an external support scaffol to keep it all in position. I've always been wary about the insurance with our current account and hoped I'd never have to test it out but when the (unfortunate) time came I can say they've been great.
Guarantee of payment was sent to the clinic within 4 hours of arival and thay will settle any additional expenses I have, even the 4 unused days on three liftpasses.
Bank account is yorkshire bank signature account and the covering firm is Travel Guard.
