I’m still undesired about tour bindings. How much of a compromise are bindings like the Marker Tour F12 EPF over an alpine binding will I feel much difference in comparison

not a lot in it on the better touring bindings like the Marker Tour, for me it is mainly down to the softer touring boot that is the compromise, not the bindings.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Glen Charman, nope, they have a higher stack height (your foot is higher off the ski) but that's the only real difference when skiing them.

I know a couple of low lifes who are rocking round on some Dynafit Beast bindings and mercury boots and swear they can't tell the difference between their Dynafit set up and their old alpine kit.
However, after selling a kidney to buy them, they would say that wouldn't they

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

meh, There are plenty of alpine bindings with a stack height higher than an F12.
Glen Charman, as othershave ssaid no appreciable difference.
BUT Fritschi or worse Naxo bindings you will have slop (they bend sideways) so you have less dynamic control.
Tech (plum, dynafit etc) are a lot more fiddly but no slop, can feel more in control than alpine bindings.

Idris, sure but it's the only real difference I could think of.

On a frame binding (Marker, Fritschi, Salomon Guardian, etc) no.
On dynafits and other tech bindings: yes.

Yes you can! We used to do the opposite and shim the heals on Fritschi's to increase delta to match alpines.
If you shim too much, like 10mm you will have to start to ramp the heal plate to avoid it binding (not wanting to slide) when engaging ski mode - only an issue on Marker, Salomon and Tyrolia (only the adrenalin) the Fritschi, Tyrolia Access, Silvretta and other touring (not freeride) style bindings won't matter how much you shim the front.

You can shim under the toe (or heel) piece on all of those.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

You can't shim a Duke/Baron/F12/F10/Guardian/Adrenalin toe more than 2mm otherwise too much stress is put on the frame & the sliding mechanism under the heel won't work freely as Idris has said above. Fritschi's can be shimmed quite a bit under the toe without affecting the locking of the frame at the heel - not sure exactly how much but I wouldn't have thought up to 7/8mm would be a problem.

I'd agree the performance difference is likely to be minimal. I removed alpine bindings from a pair of skis in favour of Marker Barons a couple of years ago, and did not notice any loss of performance. It is a pleasure to be able to do short skins from the piste and, despite the binding weight, mine have been used on several day tours (in touring boots).
