Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can every part of all 4 edges (except the turned up bits of the tips and tails) easily scrape the surface off the back of your thumbnail ? If not, they may need the attention of a file (but not sure what you mean by grinding).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Run the back of your fingernail across the edge. If nothing gets shaved off, then they need sharpening. Do this in a variety of places to check the consistency too.

(But regrinding implies to me rather more heavy-handed treatment which I'd not do to any skis I own.)

If you can imagine sanding a piece of wood to make it smooth, then grinding your skis is similar, not only will it smooth the base but sharpen the edges. It doesnt ruin your skis if done correctly (as suggested) take them to a good ski shop and ask their advice.

I should say I used to be, but not since 1997 (apart from the odd saturday work), I wasnt going to be too specific about ski maintenance and just tried to give a simple analogy on what grinding is.

skitech, No problem, was a bit worried about the simplification! Having said that I did once get a pair back from a ski shop in France, ground without the base angle being reset. First run was interesting till I worked out what was going on Toofy Grin

anarchicsaltire, exactly why I did Spyderjon's course and bought the tool kit, particularly with 2 kids who are very fussy about their skis/boards being just right!
