Could do with finding some decent quality thin ski socks for my son. Anyone recommend any particular ones?
He normally uses Smartwool or Bridgedale decent socks but they are more of a mid weight than a light weight.
His boots are becoming a little bit of the tight side and thinner socks would improve the fit I think to get to the end of the season before buying new boots.
Thanks for any suggestions.

My local Lidl still had some of their kids tech socks in last week which are good and thin and as good as any for growing feet!

davkt, I've looked at them before, they're not really thin. I mean the kind where the foot is thin and the toe bit is really thin and there is a bit of cushioning on the shin. I have some I use called ski racing light, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for in a junior version.

davkt, thanks, that's not been my recollection from when I've looked at them in the past, but if I am passing one I will try to pop in and look again.

hobbiteater, no Smartwool wintersports I think, mine are Smartwool Ski Racing Light or something, old style I don't like the new phd ones. Can you get smartwool ultralight for kids? Off to google.

sarah, yep they were a new one this winter, Chloe got very excited when she saw them, bouncing up and down in the shop with a pair of "proper ski race socks" not "those horrible thick ones" in each hand!

Local Aldi here still has (or had last week) some of the thin merino/silk/lycra ski socks which are as thin and technical as any other race socks we've ever come across (and much cheaper than any of the equivalents). Not their normal basic range - £4.99 a pair - but they have them in down to a size 2-4 so will fit kids.

Okanagan, thanks, so are they are adult socks?

I suppose so - they're not specifically packaged as kids socks - but size 2-4 works for kids in my book and these are way better than most socks which are sold for kids.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Okanagan, thanks, I will try to go and find some and look. I did get some really good, light Bridgdale adult socks in an XS and even though the foot size on the label was correct the foot of the sock was too big, not long just big and the leg length came over the knee and he is tall for age too!

The Aldi ones are great, Emily has those (Chloe's feet are only a 13ish so too small for them)

No joy in either Lidl or Aldi, I will try some other branches if I am near but the ones on my usual route had none. Aldi had kids ski suits - jacket and trousers for £8.99 Quality not great but for that price they are disposable!

Didn't look too closely as I was on the hunt for the super bargain Head goggles and lenses but there was a huge range of ski socks for all sizes of people in Decathlon when I popped into the Nottingham one yesterday.

My son uses Ladies Falke SK4's as the mens ones do not go small enough. Works well in his race boots but they are not cheap socks!!!!

scooby_simon, thanks found some of the ladies SK4 you mentioned online at a good price and so ordered them, hopefully they will arrive and not be too big like the other very small adult socks we have.
Okanagan, davkt, I found a couple of pairs in another branch of Aldi today, they were in a big tub of normal rubbishy 2 pack socks. They are size 2-4 and grey and red with a 'contour' line kind of pattern on them. They also had pale blue and cream colour. Label says silk and merino mix. They are fairly thin but not the ultra thin toe bit I was hoping for. They were £2.49 but that could have been the reduced price as they were just odd ones amongst the main stock. Do you think these are the ones you were meaning? They certainly seem fine for £2.49

Those are the ones Emily (older of my two) has, the kids one were a bit different, but looking at the various socks here all (including my Tekos) have a thin section over the top of the toes but a slightly padded toe cap.
