So... We seem to possibly be arranging a mid march trip, possibly to Lech, for 5-7 of us...
Someone suggested Lech, never been there, so it seems like a plan...
Problems
1) one chap is an early intermediate and will want/ need some private tuition. Any good independent ski schools there?
2) getting there appears to be Innsbruck then taxi. Or ZrH, then train then taxi... Any better ideas?
3) it ain't cheap. Any decent but not extortionate hotels or chalets anyone knows about?
Ta in advance, John

Have a look at Arlberg express for transfers, they have bus transfers from Zurich to the Arlberg. Alternative is to look at what offers Ski Total have, they have 3 chalet hotels in Lech which would solve your accom and transfer query.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It sure ain't cheap. Check on the cost of ski school (€100 per hour?) and ski/boot hire (pushing €200 for the week) before you are certain you want to go there.
Otherwise Ski Total would indeed solve your other problems.

stoat of the dead, I like the Hotel Gotthard although prices seem to rise each year. Superb quality in every detail (even dead stoats only live once)
The Spar is opposite should you need to save € on DIY lunches and balcony-apres
As others have mentioned while transfers are easy, equipment hire is a shameful cartel

The best hotel I think is the Hotel Angela, not that cheap but you're in Lech and it's ski in/out. The Madlochblik is is lovely too, they are both family run hotels As far as I know there is only one ski school in Lech. Sorry I can't help with transfers, have only ever driven there. (The Hotel Angela has its own car park, so you might be better off renting a car and driving there)

Ski Total - Alexandra. Only stayed in summer but nice enough for a Brit chalet hotel. Includes it's own Wellness. Hotels all look v nice but as you identify the frills don't come cheap.

We also went with Ski Total - Dec 2012 - to Chalet Hotel Sonneck which was great value for money , has a pool, sauna etc. Bus ride to the slopes but as you are at the end of the line you always get a seat . Great views and food varied from OK to very good.
I would unhesitatingly buy your own gear - hire costs are ridiculously expensive - go to Decathlon who are doing good deals on skis or boots or ebay if you know what you want.

Lech is an easy drive from Innsbruck
All hire cars have winter tyres and the roads are excellent
Taxi/transfers are p*sstakingly expensive
Lech is a fantastic resort

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

stoat of the dead, you could get the train from Innsbruck to St Anton, then bus (or taxi) from there. Not sure if there's another stop on the train line past St Anton that's more convenient for Lech?

clarky999, Langen am Arlberg is the other train station for Lech, then the bus from there to Lech. Train times tend to fit better with the Lech-Langen bus than the Lech-St Anton bus.

Expensive is a relative term... do hire care when it boys trip, but always do private transfer when it's a family trip, even if TO have a transfer.
No hassle in airport on way to resort with waiting for other flights or drop offs on the way to accommodation or having to get to hire station, no hassle if the wrong car has been booked without chains or winter tyres. Return journey, leave later than everyone else and still get there in time for flight.
Easy. If heli transfers were within budget, I would do them.

For two people, for transfer from Innsbruck to Lech we were quoted (by numerous places) approximately £500 return
Hired a small car with winter tyres (and snow chains in the boot) for 80 quid
Motorway for most of the journey
Couldn't have been easier
