Can anyone suggest a good place (preferably Derby/Nottingham/Sheffield sort of area but will post it off if I have to, ME are suggesting a place Musselburgh) to get the zip on my Mountain Equipment down jacket replaced?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

davkt, I was going to recommend Tundra, in the North East, who repaired my goretex trousers. However I see they've now closed and Scottish Mountain Gear in Musselburgh have taken on their business, assets, etc.

Claude B, disappointing, I'm only 20 minutes from Tundra and it was really easy to take things to be altered.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Just had a new main zip on my Mountain Equipment down jacket done by Lancashire Sports Repairs. Excellent job, good price, prompt service.

Thanks all, based on a load of recommendations on the local facebook page I took it to a seamstress in Matlock who said no problem but it will be expensive, then quoted me a price half of what Lancashire Sports Repairs and Scottish Mountain Gear had said and of course without the 2 way postage to pay.

Even better when I went to pick it up this morning. When I dropped it off they'd said it would be around £20, today they said it was a much quicker job than they expected (think it was the trainee who said it would be an expensive £20!) and charged me all of £12.50. I can't see any way the specialist outdoor gear repairers could have done a better job for the £40-£50 plus postage they were quoting.
