Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How good a skier are they?

For comparison our 6yo skis on 110cm and the 12yo on 137cm/157cm/175cm depending on what race he's doing that day Toofy Grin

glisser, renting kids skis and boots is pretty cheap (especially if you book in advance on the internet) and if it's just for one or two weeks holiday a year I wouldn't bother to buy

Yes, if they are regular racers, it's different.

Buy for the 11 year old, recycle into the 8yr old as she grows into them. Ski length will depend on their ability and skill level.

mr ted, 115cm - presumably that is her height? In which case 100/105 might be appropriate. But it depends on other factors too: ability, weight, desire, graphics....

pam w, we didn't buy for a long time but found that it was worth it as both boots and skis have sold well either here or eBay snowHead that was based on about 18-20 days skiing snowHead

And just fab not to have to go to rental location at peak times!

We ski one or two weeks per year.
For the GF's kids we have bought skis and boots, some were 2nd hand and did well. but when we had to, we also purchased new. Re-selling was never an issue and always covered purchase costs and potential hire costs. Last 3 pairs of boots have been new, last 2 sets of skis have been new and have had at least 2 seasons then sold.
However, we do also maintain our own skis (wax and edges) so the kids skis are an incidental extra task.
As igLou says no visits to rental shops in resort !

Holy cr@p Rob - 175cm??? 12 yo? Downhill? Scary. Book him for the Winter Olympics after Sochi. Very impressive. Shocked

EDIT: Sorry - above comment completely useless to glisser - unless they are very good or you have money to burn then just rent imo. They grow so quickly and progress so quickly that what you buy now may be worthless in 2 years and unless they are racing them you can always get something good enough (some places like slide candy in Meribel will even rent race worthy skis for kids).
