Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

DB, yeah, I'd seen that, it was not clear just how different the shell moulds were.

The models include harder shells for racing, medium hard for freeride, wide calves and wide feet etc.

DB, so not really more options than a decently stocked boot fitter?

AFAIK, the lower shell is the same on all of them. The differences are in the cuff. All built to the same formula... relatively high volume, with foam filling the (sometimes spacious) gaps. Happy to be corrected.

For mine, Strolz took me up a few levels, but alas it is time for me to move on. It not them, it is me, you understand. Razz

Strolz do say they do a model for wide feet so the lower shell might not be the same on all models. ..... but yes, you could foam a pair of buckets and they would feel great until they started to pack out. If one of the strolz boots happens to fit your feet then great but I don't see any magic in strolz boots. If another shell fits you better, Strolz won't be the best solution.

Thanks a lot for all your replies!
I thought that one of the main point of Strolz was to made a "made-to-measure" shell ... So if it is the case, it should be the best fitting shell ...
Anyway, in my case, given all your useful answers, I will probably go for a fitting at Profeet Smile

CharlesD,
As far as I am aware the shell is only made to measure in extreme circumstances and that costs more. I doubt any Strolz supplier other than Strolz themselves (in Lech, Austria) are setup to do such tailored shells.

I had my boots fitted at Profeet about 3 or 4 years ago. After a few tweeks in the early years to get rid of minor issues, they are now really comfortable and I love my boots to bits. Mrs Sno Trax also had her boots fitted there a year or two after mine and again it has solved all her comfort issues. We've recommended Profeet to a few others and they have all come back happy.

The only thing I would recommend it that after your fitting is to go to somewhere like Hemel to test them out. Whilst the short slope and constant drag lifts aren't ideal for getting into the correct position, it will highlight any possible issues with the fitting so you can get adjutments before you travel.

What do think is "so wrong"?

Do not know for sure, but I find it hard to believe that Strolz would make a custom shell. Not at any sensible price anyway. That would surely require the making of a custom mold.

I will there next week, so I will ask to satisfy my curiosity.

Really? I've had two pairs of Strolz boots fitted. One pair in Vienna, one in Lech - they used standard off-the-shelf shells that had been manufactured before hand. Yes their website makes you believe they make tailored shells just for your feet, but it's only marketing.

So how do the distributors make the shells? Do they have shell moulds?

Actually, if you read the Strolz website carefully, you will have to agree that DB speaks the truth.

In the first step of the fitting process we determine your skier type and match you with an appropriate shell configuration. Shells are completely customized and are available in different heights and widths. Shell stiffness, forward flex and cant are also matched to your weight, physiology and ability level.

That second video actually highlights another issue... the Lech store is usually super busy. The boot fitters have little time to discuss your needs or deal with problems after the foaming. The Zurs store is often a lot quieter, but their best boot fitter moved to Lech a few years ago.

I believe the distributor (UK singular!!) is able to inform the Strolz manufacturers details required to custom form boot shells if that is required. That is my understanding.

However, in this thread, Charles has decided on Profeet. .... Good for him!

Such a pity! Skullie

Exactly as I said, only Strolz in Austria are set up to make a Strolz custom moulded shell.

For specific foot problems such as club feet and pinned ankles, a specialist boot will be produced in Austria in a three to four week period. This modified boot will then be fitted by Steven in the UK.

http://www.strolz.co.uk/index.html

Strolz are very good in that they can piece together various components to best match boots to the customer's feet but as I found out they don't always have the best model to suit every pair of feet. Strolz boots are normally modelled (assembled) and not moulded to the customers feet.
