Zero_G, me neither. Though my then short haircut caused me the odd problem when I was working in the NHS. Very odd.

DB, you do realise that porn is not a reflection of reality?
When a bunch of women get together it is not for the sole purpose of engaging in group cunnilingus...

I skied with an 81 year old lady two seasons ago who was seeing how she could get on as she had had a hip replacement.
She had beem skiing from an early age and regularly went skiing with her friends,... all female.
All were excellent skiers and skied together into their 70s.
the story was that she would go to the guides office in Italy and book off piste days guiding for her group of old biddies. The next day the guide would turn up late for the ladies expecting half of them to be fussing around, infirm and incontinent and that his day would be a total waste of time and a disaster.....
Next day, three guides turned up early, had breakfast with the ladies before heading out for another superb day out ...
Im quite lucky to ski in mixed groups, with ladies that day tour, rappel into couloirs (not my thing) , tree ski, bumps, boarders, all very capable and all of different ages, and some that out drink me too ...
I dont think any are lesbians, but the places they ski .... man, they must have balls

I have often been accused of being gay. Not sure of the basis of that accusation since I have never had a partner as such of either gender. Now I realise the accusations are because I ski...

DB, I'm not gay. I did try dating (men) in my younger days, it just wasn't for me, too soul destroying.
I'm not sure what the concept of Ladies Week is for, presumably something along the lines of 'leave the husband/kids/dog/job/work for a week and have a nice holiday with your friends'. Probably wouldn't work in the UK, there would have to be an equivalent 'Mens Week'.

Not sure who the target is for whole resort Ladies week, but I would love to go on a women only off piste course.
Why? The course wouldn't get held up by all these ladies' front bottoms who thought they were good enough but couldn't quite cut the mustard.
That's why they offer them

gryphea, agreed. I always go to the ladies only sessions at my local swimming pool. Not just because I don't much want to see a fat hairy guy in budgie smugglers, but mainly because it means I can swim in the medium lane rather than getting stuck behind the very slow ladies in the slow lane.

In all seriousness, I have never in my life thought that doing a sport would make people perceive me as lesbian, nor have I thought that of other women nor that women-only sporting courses may be for lesbians or that lads trips are about men getting in touch with their inner homosexual. FFS.
|
I don't know if it's reassuring but I've never assumed good female skiers have been gay either. Did use to see a few members of the England ladies rugby team on a station platform (it said so on the back of their gear) - I'll confess I may have jumped to conclusions about them but there were other visual clues

Surely anyone who went to a mixed school knew of girly cliques (the older boyfriend, getting in pubs at 14, lots of slap type) that called sporty girls "lezzers"? Doesn't mean they were but the characterisation definitely existed?
Lads of course didn't care - any girl that would talk to you was a bonus.

fatbob, if that happened in my [mixed] school, I wasn't aware of it. But then I come from a country where sport is very popular and it's considered a bit odd if you don't participate in some kind of sport.

gryphea, I did a women only ski course in Whistler a few years ago. It was a real disappointment, as I felt very excluded from the group as the women I was skiing with all knew each other, and had done several of the camps before. Much older than me too, and the ladies of my age were a much higher standard than I, so went off with another instructor.

fatbob,
But why on earth (decades later) when we are all grown up and no longer ridiculous teenagers are the guys on here perpetuating some kind of old fashioned myth......
We should be encouraging all teenage girls to get involved in sport and any underlying irrlevant prejudices that as a generation we keep holding onto may put them off and that is something we can't afford to do as a nation, look at the obesity rates........

why would a woman choose to go on a female only camp?
|
Sometimes it's rather trying being the only female - male contributors to the thread might put themselves in the position of deciding to do a course, or a week's touring, where all the other participants were likely to be female.
But there are other possible reasons - because you rate the instructor/company, because you like the resort, because the dates suit you well. I haven't done an all-female course but definitely would if all those factors were right - it wouldn't occur to me to wonder what the sexuality of the other participants might be - and I really wouldn't care. I'd be more concerned about what it would be like if they were all much stronger skiers, or much fitter. That's what I'm thinking about with the course starting tomorrow - I think I'm the only woman, but as long as I'm not markedly weaker, that'll be fine. And the instructor is a woman, which helps, especially as I've skied with her before.

I don't mind what the gender ratio is in my skiing group. My only criterion is that no one should be a douche.

That's another fair point, Men and Women's bodies are different (thankfully). Men's bodies tend to have more muscle mass than women so for sports they are generally stronger. Us men will probably never be strong enough to have babies though. Learning to ski offpiste can be knackering (e.g. thigh burn and digging yourself out of the snow every five minutes). It's no fun when you are playing catch up and lagging behind the main group all the time. Had a similar experience when first getting into offpiste and being the only skier with an experienced group of snowboarders.

DB, just for you, a few of us will be going to the free ladies day at Combloux on Saturday. It will be my first ever ladies-only event and I would not have considered going if not for this thread.
I am going purely for the science: I will be skiing off piste and checking out how many other women do the same. Will report back.

The main difference I have found between women only and mixed groups is the women only ones tend to have a bit more chat, sorry cliche I know but it's true. I think it's also a slightly friendlier environment if you are not confident of your skills. It's also nice to see women with a high skill level, all the mtb courses I have done have had a top group of women who have been properly fast and skillfull.

Nope.. not at my school...

Must have just had some particularly bitchy cliques at my school.
BTW I don't think ladies only courses are targeted at lesbians etc, I think they're just targeted at people who don't want to deal with hyper-competitiveness, selfishness or sulkiness, all of which you can get in (non sH) groups of males (or sH groups if they contain me).

Now I get it. The reason I was often labelled as a lesbian was because I used to play rugby. Nothing at all to do with my failures with men...

Rishie, I am puzzled by this given that the rest of your post suggests that you are a man (wanting to marry a sporty girl).
What "opportunities" do you think you missed?
