Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lauberhorn without skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Heading to the race next weekend with family, and wondering if we can watch the race without skis? We're staying over in Gimmelwald and think it might be easier to make trek over without ski equipment. Any ideas?

sorry no idea about your question but using an email address as a username will get you spammed (not by snowheads but by search bots)

welcome to SH but choose a new name

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes, you can watch it from Wengernalp. It'll be mad-busy though!

Thanks telford_mike. So just take cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen and then walk?

Or train from Wengen up to Wengernalp.

Edit: I misread your post - if you're travelling from Lauterbrunnen then there is no cable car up to Wengen - it's a mountain railway up to Wengen, and as telford mike says below, just stay on the train to Wengernalp. Madeye-Smiley

Too far to walk - you get the train from Lauterbrunnen up to Wengernalp via Wengwald, Wengen and Allmend (just stay on).

Two choices for viewing locations without skis, either Inner Wengen near the finish or Wengeneralp, of these Wengeneralp would be my choice, it's only a short walk from the station, you can watch the skiers come over the Hundschopf and theres usually a big screen to watch the rest of the course, also if the weather is nice it's sunnier.

Trains are stupidly busy race weekend, get there early and expect to have to wait a bit for some free train space

aprosen@yahoo.com, I'd be tempted to take your skis. You'll get a better vantage point if you can, and get to ski too.

On foot, you are limited to where you can go (well time limited as to how far you can walk!!) whereas with skis you can get around much quicker. Head up to the top of the Lauberhorn and then walk a bit to where you can see down into the valley and wait for the flypast. After that, ski down to the side of the track and watch the race. Between each skier, ski a bit further down and you'll see racers in a different place on the course each time.

Or, don't take skis and battle the crowds at Wengernalp.

aprosen@yahoo.com, Watch out for the 3 Brits racing. TJ Baldwin & Dougie Crawford, will be doing either the Super Combined on Friday or Downhill on Saturday.
Dave Ryding should be doing the Slalom on Sunday.
