Poster: A snowHead
|
My memory is foggy...not only due to an excess of alcohol over the years but due to the passage of time too...
Went to Sauze D'Oulx back in 2006 or 2007 and went to a fantastic mountain hut near the bottom of a run maybe 200m from the ski lift which started at the end of the run.
Was a very authentic Italian joint, the local police ate there regularly, small with various rooms from what I can recall.
Could have been near Sansicario, Cesana, or even Clavier.
One thing I do remember is it was almost round the back of the piste, as if you had to leave the main part and ski off maybe 50m or so....
Want to visit again and can't for the life of me find it on the interweb.
Anyone able to help from this sketchy info??

halfhand,
It is a real authentic Italian (not much English spoken), and the food is very good. I used to take Mrs M there for lunch. The kids hated it though - no chips

Yes, I think I took the kids down blue 30, then you cross a red and the hut is set back a bit.

I'll certainly give it a go, hopefully it's the one I was thinking about...
Looks excellent in any case.

I'd definitely give Ciao Pais a go. Thought it was fabulous and pretty rustic. I've only lunched there (good!) but I want to go back to stay.

jedster,
Yes, Mrs M wants to go back and stay there. I think you can organise a skidoo to get up there for an evening meal as well.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Legend., There is a good restaurant off the side of the piste going down to San Sicario! The one I am thinking of has a small terrace outside overlooking the valley! You have to leave the piste and use a track made by either the restaurant or fellow diners!
The one I am thinking of is shown on the right hand side of the lift map here http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/San-Sicario/pistemap
to the right (as you are looking at the map) of lift no. 47.

homers double, That is the place I was thinking of! As you have to use the track to reach it and is on that side of the hill, it may very well be the place Legend., was looking for!

If that's the same restaurant that tour operators in Claviere arrange a skidoo ride up to, we were in claviere last year and other guests complained about it. Didn't go myself
