Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Corsica enjoys early snow, but its ski areas are "in crisis" - report

 Poster: A snowHead

Corsica, the Mediterranean island 100 miles south-east of Nice, has had an early blast of snow, as low as 300 metres above sea level.

That's the good news. The bad news is that the island's ski areas are "in crisis", according to this report from PisteHors.com.

Haut-Asco has long since closed its doors ... Now the island's three remaining areas are threatened

Clearly an urgent need for a major influx of UK tour operators.

Anyone skied on Corsica?

Perhaps we could buy Corsica & tow it into the North Sea off Scarborough. With its altitude, I reckon it would provide excellent skiing for us Toofy Grin

A couple of the problems they have had - which are not mentioned in the report but are releated, are poor industrial relations and terrorism. The Corsican liberation front (FNLC?) has blown up any large scale tourist infrastructure that gets built. The positive effect is that compared to the terrible French south coast the island remains relatively unspolt. A recent strike has effectively bankrupted the islands only ferry operator and lead to shortages of everything which has severely hampered business development.

Nope.......
but if the locals and the french don't ski there enough to make it economically viable it doesn't sound too promising that they will entice many foreign visitors either.
