Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice on new boots pls?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
After about 15 years my old Atomic boots have finally reached the end of the piste and I'm looking to buy some new ones.

I am not the most 'up' on technical developments so don't really know what (if anything, other than moulded soles) has changed since I boguht my last pair.

Can any kind s n o w h e a d suggest what boots I should go for now?

I'm an advanced skier, 17 stone, 6ft tall (if any of that is relevant info?) and within reason happy to pay what it takes to get some good boots.

Thanks in advance all.

northernsoulboy, book an appointment to see Colin (CEM on here), explain what sort of skiing you (want to) do and buy what he suggests is best. Unless he doesn't have what you need, in which case, go where he tells you.

Unless anyone has a more local idea?

Agree with the above, definitely see a good boot fitter. You may be lucky getting something from a shop but for many people getting a boot that best suits their foot shape, size, ability etc makes a hell of a difference over the lifetime of the boot.

AP, UANN - thanks for that. Someone else had emailed me and suggested CEM and Bicester's not too far so that's where I'll be going.

Thanks again.

You could try Snow and Rock in Bristol, it's a little closer maybe, they have a good selection and as Avalanche Poodle said the boot fitters will look at foot shape (width of foot, heel and ankle width/size, arch size, instep height,) your ability and what you want to get out of the boot, they should also look to see if you pronate or supernate and suggest an appropriate footbed/support to help control pronation/supernation, the footbed will also help with the comfort of the boot too.

Jonny, Bicester is actually a bit closer for me, and it looks like Colin is more of a specialist. But thanks for the suggestion anyway.
