The one which you are in.
What are you looking for? Best price, best food, best view, best wine list, best compromise between all of the above?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

a good main is about 20 euros, and the portions are very generous. Its "mountain" food not michelin fine dining. It only gets expensive it you tap into their huge wine list. House bottles are very reasonable though, so unless you go crazy its pretty comparable with everywhere else.

Good value the one at the top of Galzig, self service one that does the pizzas next to the kiddies eating area
Good value, good food

The Rödelalm above Nasserein is very good - better value and service last year than the Hospiz (which seemed, IMHO, to have lost its way somewhat).

Amazing how many folk get taken/sucked in by the Hospiz Alm
That is the worse place on the Mountain. The regular menu is all fast food, everything (except kaiserschmarrn) comes out of a plastic bag. I mean everything !!! On top of that you pay Rip Off prices .
The A la Carte is not that much better.
The Hospiz is really only a place to go for the Wine.
If you want a decent meal cross the street into the Main Hotel.
Proabably the only place left to get decent value Austrian Mountina food is the RodelAlm although they are selling out to the Burgers & French Frys & there prices have increased again this season.
The Lift Company Restaurants are better than most private places on the hill.
Unfortunatly if you need to travel to St Anton am Montafon for good mountain food nowadays

Rodelalm used to be great until they completely rebuilt the place a few years ago. Now it's just another mountain restaurant like all the others. Not bad but not particularly good either!

You know it makes sense.

Hawko, I agree with stanton, regarding the Hospiz Alm. I was out there a couple of weeks last year, and usually get a week in Arlberg for past 6/7 seasons, regularly eating/drinking there. Sadly the past 3/4 visits were a let down. Attitude of staff, including the upstairs A La Carte, was less than welcoming, delayed oredering, delayed service, cold food, indifferent attitude. Took some friends there for lunch last year, probably not again sorry to say.
RodelAlm is okay, but my consistently good food/good service goes to Rud Alpe in Lech, plus top of the Zugerberg restaurant's pizzas.

Have a look around the Stuben area, we found a good restaurant along the principal road a little stroll from the piste. It had good solid Austrian fare, no burgers or fast food and was very comfortable.

I assume you are talking about Balmalpe? Yeah, the pizzas are a treat, but too many staff there have too much attitude. The sort of "too cool for school" attitude. Mayhem at lunchtime too.
Had a lovely meal in Stubenbach after skiing Langerzug. Alas cannot remember the name of the place. Also quite like the place behind the church in Stuben. That said, for what you pay, most of the company restaurants, eg Rendl, Gampen, and Galzig do pretty good food.
Full disclosure: we are not really lunching people; grab something to eat, a soft drink, and get back out again.

Berghaus and mondschein in Stuben both good but not slope side. Griabli does decent enough grub opposite the moos and best pint of beer in the area

Amazing how a vey cozy atmosphere (Hospiz,Griabli,Heustadl,Berghaus) can make
Boil in A bag food & Tinned soup seem fantastic....
One of the few kitchens that cooks fresh everyday is the Mooserwirt..
Often overlooked but this place is reccomended.

Stanton, we stayed there Jan 2012. It was fantastic. Every evening meal a delight and the cakes and strudel with afternoon 'tea' truly scrumptious. The rooms are excellent and the hosts are brilliant. The herr was born in the hotel and it's been in the family hands forever. We got stuck in resort due to avalanches and they were very accommodating when we were sent back to them without them being told by the TO. Even upgraded us for the one night.

We also stayed there a couple of years back, can only echo all that NE1, says. Probably the best ski hotel food we have experienced. IIRC they set up a grill on the sun terrace during the day for slope side lunches.
