Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Nozawa onsen advice

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey

Could do with a bit of advice! I'm heading off to nozawa for two weeks towards the end of February with my girlfriend and looking for recommendations for traditional accommodation there.

She wants to mooch around in onsens and do a bit of skiing but I'll be keen to get out there whenever the snow is good. So....will we get bored there, and can anyone offer any advice on ryokans and anything else interesting?

Thanks! James

Ooyu Onsen is well worth a visit as is the Stay Bar.

If you are the average holiday skier who likes to ski different areas/runs each day yes you will be bored after a week. (why not spend your second week elsewhere?) You can daytrip to Nagano by bus, visit the temple etc.....info should be available in Nozawaonsen's tourist office. You may be able to travel to other ski areas on a daily basis. Perhaps the weatherman will be along with some advice on accommodation snowHead

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm only there for the deep snow so not really worried about the number of pistes. Looks like we will be in nagano for a day and then Tokyo for a couple. Flights booked today! Now just need some accommodation. Thanks. J

you could start your search on www.snowjapan.com go to their homepage, click on Nozawa Onsen Now in the Daily Reports section; on the right side you will find a list of accommodations under Nearby Accommodation....there are 6 ryokan named. unfortunately I cannot offer any comments on them, but their pics may help you. Enjoy snowHead

However if you are ok with japanese only, and want a budget place, good located with a private rotenburo looking into the woods, try this (the people are though very reserved):

located in F2 on this map:

kesone1, not a traditional ryokan but well worth a look is Pension Schnee which is ski in ski out (and as a result a little above the village).

I would probably want to spread two weeks across more than one resort. Hakuba, Shiga or a bit further to Zao?

I've not been for a few years, but Nozawa is a lovely place.

Shame you'll miss it but for anyone else if you can get there this time next week it's the Dosojin.

direct contakt to Pension Schnee http://www.pensionschnee.com/ H2 on the map, however living down in town is nice. I agree with Nozawaonsen 2 weeks is a bit long for Nozawaonsen.
