Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi Snowheads,

I've been put in charge of organizing our next New Year's skiing trip.

As it's really 1year in advance, do chalets take bookings so far ahead? If so, what sites are the best for me to start looking?

Many Thanks in advance.

Not too far, no. My parents ski with a large group and it is quite frequently booked in feb/march of the preceeding year.

Depends on the group size I suppose.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

many thanks homers double, i think the group will be around 10. I'm looking to book early, so it's not an issue for people having to stump up the cash all at once. Then we can spread the cost over the year

Catered or self catering? Tour op or putting it together yourself? Different sites for the different types.

a.j., we would prefer catered, and for the ease of everything, probably a tour op. Is there usually much price difference in tour-diy?

My trips this year were booked a good 11 months in advance, so no, not too early.

For catered, as a rule, I find tour op deals slightly cheaper (The transfers are a killer when DIY), independent is better food but usually not quite as good locations Smile The difference though is slight - we prtty much always end up at £600 give or take £50.

For tour op holidays igluski will give you all the big players (neilson, crystal etc)

For smaller places I just built up a listing over time - google, chalet solutions, chaletline, chaletfinder etc. I like all these guys:
yseski (Small tour op - fantastic)
All others are chalet only (no flights)
zenithski (includes transfers)
skiamis (food not great, but locations good)
snowcrazy (includes transfers)
skibug
snowchateaux

Hope that helps!

The company we're going with next week have just sent me a brochure and discount offers for winter 2014/2015.
But even with the offers it still works out £300 per head more than we're paying for this trip. We booked three weeks ago and got superb price. At the time, the catered chalet had sold almost no rooms for next week, so I think they panicked a bit on the price reductions (around 50%). I'll take the same approach next year rather than book ahead. Having said that we're only a group of 4, so will always find somewhere. Don't think I'd risk it with 10.

We used to go diy (book separate flights, cars/transfers, chalet), but it just doesn't seem to work out anymore due to the fact that really cheap flights are becoming a thing of the past.

The down-side of a package is usually flights at horrible times and long transfers.
