Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Jet 2 from Manchester-bags questions

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all,

Off to Tignes on the 2/2.

I've never flown with Jet 2 before (on a ski trip).

I've a big ski bag and hope to take 2 pairs of skis, I may also be able to avoid taking another checked bag by putting my clothes etc in here IF I can stick my boots in my carry on bag. I can't see anywhere on the Jet 2 site which says they're not allowed only:

'Any other item that in our opinion could be used to endanger the aircraft or any of its passengers.'

How strict are they on weighing your ski bags? I'll do a self weigh and it's well over I'll just go for a checked bag to save any potential hassle. Could take bindings off like I've done previously and stick in hand luggage-got a couple of funny looks when going to Canada from the X-ray men.....

It's not a lot of money but if it's possible some extra beer money saved.

Thanks.

Depends on the staff on the day but based on my experience they are usually quite strict on the weight. Don't think they are too bothered about the content of the ski bag as long as it's not over the weight limit. I never had mine checked for the contents but got stung once for the weight...

Yep they weigh the ski bags (well did at Leeds and Grenoble last winter) and did see someone pulled up and told to repack or pay extra thanks to being about 1/2kg over. Though no questions on what was in them, for me and the 2 kids 2 big roller snowboard bags was all out hold luggage so they must have figured there was something other than skis/boards in there!

Dia_FindTransfers, Thanks, I can't recall ever flying with any budget airline on a ski trip but know what sticklers they can be when I've travelled with the Easy Jets etc of the world on non ski trips. I'd have thought on a standard baggage belt it would be difficult to balance a big ski bag? Coming back from Austria last year I may or may not have braced my leg against the bag while on the scales to make sure it was under......

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

davkt, Yeah the roller bag would have gave it away! Mines just an over the shoulder job but flexile enough to get quite a bit in with 3 pairs of skis, I'm only taking 2 on this trip though and I don't expect my boots would fit in.

Were your boots in your checked luggage? Think it will be doable if I can get my boots in my carry on.

Bene, we have seen people refused boots as carry on, but its airport security who do that. Not sure why, but we've seen it twice, once Gatwick and once on a return at Grenoble.

Yep Bene, the boots (2xski, 1x board) were in the coffin bags.
Oh and yep there used to be signs ups saying no helmets or boots in hand luggage at Grenoble but they have vanished and we've had no problem with helmets in (or in the case of my 9 year old desperately trying to look like a ski bum clipped on the outside of) out hand luggage.

I've always taken a boot bag as hand luggage when I've flown with Jet2 from Manchester to Chambery and Grenoble (3 times in the last 2 years); as have lots of the other passengers. If you're not sure, or if it's not clearly stated in your booking information, it's probably best to check with your Tour Operator or Jet2. I doubt it's changed since last year though.
