Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Two days in Tromsø - any suggestions?

Dear fellow heads of snow,
I'm off to Tromsø this weekend to compete in a 10km running race. I've tagged an extra couple of days on to the end, and just trying to work out my best skiing options.
I'd like to check out the local slopes (the world's most northerly, apparently) and wondered if there's any more downhill nearby?
I'd also like to sample the mythical Lyngen Alps where you can ski from the mountains down to the coast but I don't know if that's possible to do as a day trip. Most of the trips I've heard about are week long.
I'm a competent piste skier, can do basic off-piste, and a little cross country.
Any thoughts/info etc much appreciated.
Thanks.
Mr Neige

Neil Neige,

We were there a couple of years ago and had a spare day, so took a bus from the town to the local ski slopes. It didn't take too long to get there (30 mins?) and was worth a ride out. The ski area is small but very scenic, with great views of the fjord.

Definitely worth going for the novelty value alone!

Our hotel receptionist advised us of bus times.

Neil Neige, you'll be able to check out the ski slopes from the plane on the flight in as you pass very close to (and just below) the ski area on the flight in (shortly before the 180 degree handbrake turn between the mountains to line up on the strip...).

Unless of course its dark which is highly likely at this time of year...

Hi - thanks for these comments. Yeah, it will be pretty dark out there at this time of year. Not sure if pitch black all the time or maybe a twilight glow in the daytime.
I've done a bit of research on the Tromso slopes so will defo check those out. However, don't know whether there's an opportunity to get to the Lyngen Alps for a day trip so any info on that would be cool.
Cheers.
