Poster: A snowHead
|
I've been thinking about making myself visible to nearby skiers, when skiing in whiteout. Red flashing light used by cyclists (e.g. helmet mounted) spring into mind like an obvious solution.
Yes, I know, skiing in whiteout is not a good idea in the first place. But last season I got into one on my way back to the hotel (it wasn't that bad when I went out) and it was scary - skiing down a red run with 0 visibility and other people evidently around whom you can only hear but not see. Red lights would certainly improve things?
What do snowheads think?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you made it a flashing orange light folk would think you were a piste basher or a snow plough and keep out of your way.

oleksii,
Saw a couple of skiers with those last Friday in Courchevel, struck me as quite a good idea. only problem for 'followers' if they pickup the wrong 'flasher'

A red flashing light might also attract a certain type of 'customer'

oleksii, I've had one clipped to my backpack for 10 years . . . come in handy more than six times. Particularly on a evening that too soon turned to night and I had a terrified skier to cajole down the mountain . . . always carry a good torch too . . . the new one outshines my truck headlights, has a 100+ yard reach and still fits in a pocked.

I've never deployed it for fear of being laughed it, but I have occasionally skied with one stashed in my pockets just in case it seemed a good idea.

When it's whiteout or generally poor viz, we fasten these to the back of our kids helmets. Allows me track the little bugs, and also gives me some peace of mind vis a vis their..viz.
