I've just bought
https://www.head.com/ski/products/skis/women/mya-n-2/6839/?region=eu
For mrs K1orange and with great delight she opened them today.
Decathlon in Nottingham advised me about them and it is very different to the description above. Mrs k1 has done about 8 weeks, intermediate, skis all pistes, but doesn't go off piste.
Are these suitable?
Thanks

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

They said they were intermediate to advanced. The head review is more beginner. I wanted them as a progression for mrs k1. She currently used Rossignol Axium 150 (106,67,95)

Mya is a name used on skis from beginner to advanced, if it is the 2s you've got and going on what Head says they will be on a slow running base and very forgiving (or she might find them soggy and sluggish!) in the turns.

Go talk to them if they haven't been used. Take a printout of the Head page that says they are a beginners ski.

I will, but disappointing when they are a Christmas present and we are in Penzance till we fly on Saturday, we may have to detour to Southampton.

k1orange, decathlon will definitely give you a refund, they are very good about returns whatever the reason. I concur with the above that the Mya is Head's range of womens skis from Mya 2 to Mya 10 last time I looked, I bought Mya 8s in end of season sale. The higher the number the more 'advanced' the ski though the higher numbers 8-10 tend to be the more off-piste oriented skis, I think the 7 is the top end piste ski. Trouble with Decathlon is that they don't stock a full range, they probably only stocked the Mya 2 so you cant compare skis from the range. It's a shame you only googled them after you'd already given them

You know it makes sense.

Yup and while I know Decathlon Nottingham have some really good staff in the ski department all their staff are happy to help a customer and sounds like k1orange was helped by a non ski specialist! As well as trying to get sorted in Southampton I think I'd give the customer services bods in Giltbrook some rather forthright feedback!

I was helped by all three ski staff in Giltbrook (Nottingham) one said he used to race super G.
Will Mrs K1 feel the difference, what is the difference between a Mya 2 and Mya 7. There will be used 99% on piste. The description says slow, what is this compared with? Is this just top end speed when racing?
Do we take them or stick with the Rossignol Axium's that she already has.
Decathlon in Southampton don't have any suitable alternatives

k1orange, my two penneth is to stick with the skis she has already. You are trying to 'upgrade' her skis but these are beginner skis. They will be much softer than the Mya 3-7. They will likely chatter at speed. If your wife has improved a lot since she started then she will be looking towards a much more intermediate ski than this.

k1orange, Dissapointing to hear as I've found them great in past to point of telling me to go elswhere to buy as they didn't have anything suitable and suggesting what get when I did need(boots to fit my eldest daughters odd shaped feet) but haven't used the ski dept this year so don't know who is working in it. Given your description on Mrs K's skiing I'd certainly think she will feel the difference. How about her trying out a selection of new skis while you are on holiday so she can pick some she really likes rather than taking a punt based on manufactures description? Once she has found some you can always google the cheapest place to buy.
