That is just shocking at how apathetic BASI members are. Next time you hear someone moaning about BASI the first question should be did you vote for your Board representative and the structure of your association. Makes me wonder why I even bother...

Not according to the latest update, if you don't vote, you don't vote that is it.

The text of notice is not designed to mislead. If one votes no, one votes no, if one votes yes, one votes yes, if one does not vote or spoils a vote then that vote cannot be counted. It may in fact be reflective of the historical voting on such things - being sure to remind people that if they don't vote it is not a default yes. |

balernoStu,
Good that you have voted. BUT... it seems that only one of the candidates for Alpine Director has actually bothered to pass comment or get involved with the process. Some ducking and diving from the incumbent Alpine Director perhaps? If you get the chance read the minutes of the Board for the past 3 meetings. No mention of the Board having approved the proposals, in fact no mention of the Board discussing the proposals.
It would appear from Ian Linklater's last post on the BASI FB page that it was an email which he sent to the CEO that made Mr Burke hit the panic button and send out a mailshot to all members. And what exactly was the cost of that in terms of paper, postage and manpower in the office?
One member in Scotland has already asked if the proposals have been costed out. After repeatedly asking the same question the answer finally came - no, it has not been costed.

I understand from FB that Ian Linklater has been elected Alpine Director, congratulations.
Despite the unprecedented lobbying by Stephen Burke none of the special resolutions were passed.
Obviously the direction the Board & Stephen Burke want to take us is not what the membership want.
Where does this leave us now

they are back to the drawing board and will redraft the articles. I think it was mentioned in time to be revoted on in April but a few beers were had by that point in the conversation Myself and Rob submitted an alternative board structure for consideration and that is in the mix.
lively discussion again from Simon B .
congrats to Ian, it was pretty close with a much improved turn out (by memory around 400 votes cast)

In recent years the Board of Management have failed to appoint a competent CEO. Basi should return to its roots and concentrate on building a profession. It should offer and provide training courses and assessments. It should also offer greater on going support to those members who have chosen to be involved in skiing on a full time basis. The farming out of training courses to various organisations has just diluted the original aim of the association. The Board should recognize that within the membership of the association there is a wealth of experience that has in the past established Home Nation Governing Bodies, ski schools both in the UK an Europe, Coaching Schemes, built and managed artificial ski slopes, acted as expert witnesses in ski related litigation and has managed to get young athletes to the Olympics. The Board of Basi could be much smaller { with associated savings and greater ease of management }and other members with specific expertise hired as consultants whenever the need arises. We need a Board which is dedicated to managing a PROFESSION and not just seeking celebrity status.

The question is 'what happens if all the proposals are voted against'?? Will that be a vote of no confidence in the board Puzzled Puzzled |
The Board currently doesn't represent the view of the membership as their proposals have been voted against. Maybe they should start listening

Well done those who voted, a shockingly small number but much achieved.
did anyone notice the proposed formation of a working to group to "“Review and agree how BASI should manage social media engagement opportunities and platforms for the maximum benefit and involvement of all Members in a way that safeguards the professional integrity and brand image of the Association"?
sounds a bit like "people mobilised against the board, we need some proposals whereby if anyone opposes the board online in future they are deemed to be bringing the association into disrepute"....... call me cynical......
Watch for these proposals being repeated until they get the answer they want.

Alpine Logic, I'm puzzled. In what way are the board (or any of its number) seeking 'celebrity status' as you call it? Care to enlighten us?

BASI appear to be trying to stop future open debate by issuing written warnings to members who appear to have 'breached media social guidelines' in the EGM debates

Surely even on their greatest self-important power trip the Board can't stifle free speech unless it is legally defamatory? Cue Godwins Law!
