Poster: A snowHead

There's a chance we'll get away this year after all. Yay! Recommendations for resort needed for intermidiot family of four. Ma, pa, two girls (13 and 11). All comfy on blues and easy reds. We're all about same standard so will probably have few private lessons as a family - kids fed up with ski school. We usually go to France, but I suspect it'll be busy that week. Usually like s/c but could go for hotel. Après not important.
Cheers

Le Grand Bornand in FR? Of the smaller resorts my family loved Alpbach in AT.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

dobby, yes, it will be busy, I think Paris AND zone B on holiday that week. Check with the people who know Austria about holidays there, though - don't want to go out of the frying pan into the fire. And don't believe that "smaller" French resorts will necessarily be any quieter than bigger ones - Les Saisies is fairly small and will be rammed. My apartment will be empty. Maybe Italy? Is that the only week you can go?

pam w, it is the only week - welsh half term. I am considering cervinia - looks good for our level of skiing and hemsedal in Norway because a friend has recommended it.

dobby, ok is France but Vallandry ticks the boxes IMHO, we ahve 3 kids and have been thee for last umpteen years.
Lots of suitable runs - particularly above Vallandry but also across in les Arcs
Smaller family friendly village
Some restaurants and a bar, but not really an Apres place
S/C is the norm in terms of apartments and there is a well stocked Sherpa
Been at Easter, half-term and Xmas and is never too busy - can be busy over in Les Arcs but Vallandry side always fine
I have no accommodation to sell

dobby, Norway can be VERY expensive, check that out before you commit! Not the skiing as such, but food and drink can really add up. That aside, as long as you're not looking for apres Norway is beautiful- an experience in itself. But for an easy family trip I'd be much more inclined towards Austria

dobby, might be worth looking at Madonna di Campiglio in the Brenta Dolomites. Folgarida is another option (probably less expensive, but you can ski the same area on a full pass). Should certainly suit your requirements for the skiing - cruisey blues and reds. The hotels in Folgarida are OK and between 2 and 5 minutes walk from the lift. There are ski in/out options. Apres is on the quiet side. On mountain eating is reasonable price-wise. Excellent quality-wise.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

pam w, I am intending to wait a little longer to see where snow falls but if it's rubbish at end of feb we're all dooooomed. Boris, nice one centurion. But I'll still have a look at pila despite its rice related name.
