If they are, and they do look like, drive on ones, bin em and get some easier to fit ones. You'll spend ages fitting them only to spend ages taking them off 300m down the road.
Edit: Having now thought about it give me your tyre size and I may have a used set which you can have and seeing as you are in Bath could collect them from me in Westbury.

Thanks for the kind offer, unfortunately my location is a bout out of date as I am currently living in France!
They do seem awkward to fit, even threading them behind the tyre is difficult and that's in good conditions.

As mentioned above, old school chains about as useful as a pair of Dynastar Course 207's in a slope style contest.
They are incredibly difficult to fit, even after a few years practice it would still take me an hour to get them on, and then only on flat ground with decent traction to allow me drive onto them (you dont actually thread them behind the tyre). They then need re tightening - a lot ! These type of chains are the original reason I bought a Landrover 
Put them in the bin, I have seen modern chains in French supermarkets for £30.

Masque, there is something strange about these chains. The Pewag site says they're for small tractors and special vehicles!
I took everyone's advise and bought some cheapo chains from Super U for €30. Just tried them out and they were really easy to fit! Hopefully they'll end up being a waste of money as we have winter tyres, but good to have them just in case.
