Video can be a useful teaching tool, even when things go a bit awry...

In this case an important lesson about standing on the outside ski.

Good recovery at the end and a nice long slide. The gentleman has a future in curling.

That was unfolding before our eyes from the first turn.
Did very well to relax in the fall and just go with it.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Just to give a little bit of context, the first part of that pitch was steeper than it appears in the video (genuine red grade) and the snow was very hard-packed so not offering a huge amount of grip. As you can see from how far he slid, the speed he was skiing was a bit quicker than it appears in the video clip (which always seems to flatten slopes and slow down the perceived speed). All in all I was impressed, especially considering how much improvement he has made since he started skiing with us last year.

DB, In fairness to FLANGESAX he's very experienced at falling off ski and mountain bikes, so has the recovery thing pretty well nailed. I suspect he could jump from a plane sans parachute and still land pretty well.

Thanks for that, it's good to know he's coping well with it. When I first saw the clip it did look as though his lip was starting to go a bit and expected him to burst into tears. Good to see after all those years in Austria he still hasn't lost the great British stiff upper lip.

I find that if you fall on really steep ground you can sometimes accidentally (shhhhh) roll over and land back on your skis. All I need is for someone to video it, and not all the ones where I carry on rolling for many metres.

Nah - if you pulled that off it couldn't have been accidental
