Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
Only got into skiing last season but am now totally obsessed - I'm going 3 times this season!
I'm after investing in a pair of goggles (just borrowed some last season), nothing too expensive, around £40 perhaps. It's going to be an Xmas present from someone to me
Any recommendations? I'm a little confused on the best lense colour to buy - I'm no fashionista so not too bothered what they look like/what the brand is - just want them to be good at what they do!
Cheers,
Chris

5 pairs of LIDL googles then you can have any combination of style, lens etc.
Personally I always tend to go orange or gold/gold lite on lens & avoid mirrored stuff. Others will have other views.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks fatbob - what makes you go for orange lenses? Do these provide any specific advantages over the other types?

Some bargains to be had on flea bay.. . I just bought myself a pair of Bolle Gravity at 30quid but have a RRP of 70, so there is definately some bargains on there. I would go for a higher spec 2nd hand than a cheaper pair. Salomon are also good brand along with normally Oakleys, but these can be a bit pricey..

chopkins13, look on the Oakley website. It explains rhe different lens colours and there is a section where you can test the effects

It depends on when you're going to wear the googles too - I wear sunglasses in good conditions, so only use goggles in low light or poorer conditions. Consequently I have a yellow lens as it lets more light in (high VTL). Obviously if you're wearing them all the time, you may want a more versatile lens that will work in most conditions (or a google that has interchangable lenses).

Handy Turnip - good point on the sunglasses, especially as one of my trips this year will be in late March when hopefully it will be a tad warmer! Think I'm coming round to the idea of some yellow/orange/gold lense goggles - I can see the sense in that though.
Are there any other features I need to be thinking about? I don't wear glasses, but do wear a helmet - I'm a bit of a 'warm' person, so fogging up can be an issue
Any other thoughts?

£40! For goggles! Tch, must be made of money ...
Risking repeating myself, many of the posted makes also sell the same goggles and lenses for (particularly off-road) motorcycling. And, while at this time of year, the ski equipment retailers are rubbing their hands every time they use on-line banking, it's a quiet time for motorcycle equipment retailers. Last time I bought goggles, I checked the makers' websites, picked an off-road motorcycling equipment supplier and scored the same pair of Oakleys for £14 that, at the time, would've cost me the aforementioned £40 from a ski equipment retailer.
Hth.
