Poster: A snowHead
|
I want to buy my wife some ski boots for Xmas.
Does anyone sell a gift voucher or service where she can rock up, get measured, fitted and then buy some boots. I'm looking for London <-> Bristol area really and it would be nice to give money to someone who deserves it rather than a rush you in/out chain store.
Any ideas?
Ta
Dave

Bicester is not that far from Bristol and I'm sure Colin would accomodate you - great boot fitter, have a chat with him.

DaveB, Colin noted recently that he has no appointments available now before Christmas - if it's for afterwards, might be wise to make an appointment now? Well worth travelling to Bicester.

DaveB, Make a day out. Give her an IOU/empty box with pair of toy ski boots in or whatever, and make an appt for her at Bicester. Plenty of places for a nice lunch/coffee/shopping for the opther bit of the day and if it's too far for a day trip stay over? Could cost you a few bob..but she'll have comfy feet for the foreseeable future...I would love that as a gift.

How about those car air freshener ones - I've seen them in the shape of ski boots. Otherwise try a toy shop - Action Man definitely skis, or Barbie may do, Playmobil make a small skier (we once set fire to one on a birthday cake!). Otherwise, think "Blue Peter" and make some - try clay, or even cake! Or fondant "roll out" icing? any good at woodwork? whittle some? Have you got a shed? Go in there and manufacture!
I googled it and found some stress toys of ski boots & dolls house ones.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

snowyowl, the cost of a skiing Barbie (yes, she exists) would be similar to a decent pair of footbeds. If you check round the charity shops you might well find some little kids boots for a lot less money. I just sold a pair on ebay for 99p!

pam w, I had thought of suggesting that myself but then I wondered if I would really like to get a pair of someone else's used ski boots as my present!
PerhapsDaveB, could find a friend/playgroup etc who owns "skiing Barbie" and borrow her boots for a few days?

You know it makes sense.

Just an update, thanks to all who recommended Colin at Solutions-for-feet, Helen went today and he was amazing. She left with a perfectly fitting pair of boots after a long and detailed fitting. Cannot recommend him highly enough.
