Humpfknick, I wear softshell trews and you can feel the chairlift seat more than with regular sallies. I added some quality cycle shorts length undercrackers and all is well.

Humpfknick, I have softshell keks too, less bulky than the insulated type. I just wear base layer leggings underneath on a chilly day.

That's how you can tell that the censorship software was written by a Brit. There's a simple trick of avoiding it, however. (Arse!)
Anyway, softshells. I rate em highly. Its a very broad category, so you should be able to find something that suits your particular weight/cost/weatherproofness needs. I don't like insulated shells at all, because I just don't get cold enough to need them most of the time. Paramo Aspiras are my usual salopettes, with lighter, thinner trews coming out in warm weather. The Aspiras are warm enough for me, very windproof, and waterproof enough to keep out rain and wet snow. They're not necessarily my sexiest bits of outerwear, but they do last forever and can be picked up cheapish.

You know it makes sense.

Haha Serriadh, true!! (About censorship by a Brit, lol)
Thanks for the advice re: soft shell bottoms: see, censorship works!!), this site rocks!!

Humpfknick, probably the best ski jacket i've ever had (in terms of tech bits and pieces i.e: warm and dry) was a Helly Hansen. Bought in an outlet for around £80 and worn for 4/5 ski holidays. Only sold on Ebay (for about half what I paid for it) when I was a bit bored; there was no sign of wear and it would have done the job for several more years. Good investment I'd say (and it looks pretty good)

Montana, exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, thanks!! I might get over the fact that it's pink, if I'm warm and dry lol. I like the high neck too, nice and cosy- and it has vents, which the Hyra doesn't. But it has fewer pockets. Am being picked up in 40 mins for the airport (YAY!!) to head back to the mountains, I have until then to decide which one comes with and which stays home with the labels on to be returned, lol! Any other opinions in the meantime, fire 'em out!!

I like the Hyra in either the black or the blue. I'm not a big fan of pink.
I do like the blue Hyra though. I always like to be visible on the hill; but if your ski pants are purple you will be anyway!
