Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

pam w, I can remember sitting watching old cine films with my family at Christmas. Dad in charge. Every so often the film would rustle a bit then we would see a nice orange glow as another bit burned.

Weathercam, little quadcopters are the new GoPro now. Quite a few of the smaller/web ski movies have used them for park footage so no doubt they'll be infesting the skies momentarily.

meh, the challenge will be for when he wants to film kitesurfing in big winds, and what size his cojones are then as to how windy he'll try and fly it in, as if he has to ditch that's going to be very expensive!

Personally I have always held the belief that people who ski with go pros are just wanting to bray and brag about their skiing. C'mon its a bit wanky? They also seem to spend half their time preoccupied with setting up watching and editing rather than actually enjoying their skiing.

Morrissey, editing can be quite therapeutic believe it or not.

Though I know many people, kiters especially who have bought cams and have mounted them on the kite, which gives a great shot, similar to mounting on your ski tip, but then (and this is pre wireless control) they then end up with huge files (as they turn it on as the start and off at the finish) that are nigh on impossible to edit as the hardware being used to edit does not have enough memory to cope with the file size.

And then there are many who will not invest in decent editing software and or hope to get away with the freebies and on a machine that again can't cope.

I do love this idea, but I won't be happy if somebody else's quadcopter crashes into my head!

Go Pro is only cool if you have 2 of them.

1 pointing forward and the other backward.

My view.

I found owning a GoPro meant you were forever filming everyone else. So I bought another camera so others could film me (whilst I filmed them). Aside from their general lack of interest or effort to film me, they were poor subjects themselves.

However the second you brought the computer out before / after supper, everyone clamoured round wanting to see film of themselves without realising that without somebody editing the material it was tedious watching lots of generic piste etc skiing interleaved with lots of footage of going up on lifts. Generally, for the random, spectacular one off moments, the camera would be pointing the other way and so the only spectacular footage would be for highly orchestrated / staged filming.

I concluded that whilst good footage was there to be had, the overhead of filming and editing was disproportionate to the reward.

I then found that my iPhone in HD filmed nearly as well - so I abandoned the cameras and now rely on the iPhone for impromptu filming here and there.

So I'd get into cameras with the expectation that filming and editing is quite a lot of effort and may not be worth it.

My view.
