Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi I am considering Saas Fe for out trip next year the 1st week of Feb, have read some reports that it can be in the shade early in the season, can anyone advise what it will be like at this time, not concerned about the temp just like sunshine to ski in Very Happy

We went to Saas Fee late January 2012. It was sunny at the top, but you quickly dropped into the shade, if memory serves. Saas Grund, a bus trip down the valley was in the sun all the time.

I know you're not interested in the temps, but they were routinely in the -20s at the top, even in the sun.

Brilliant snow, though, and the lift system requires a lot of walking, which keeps you warm.

We have been going to Saas Fee for the last six years (with the exception of one year, keep reading!), always on the last week of January or the first week of February. It can be on the shade and cold (two seasons ago we had -32c) but it is an amazing resort. Both my wife and I are so happy with it, that we had to force ourselves to try Zermatt three seasons ago but we were not convinced and returned to saas Fee the year after that. I have to disagree with The Flying Snowplough though, I would not say that there is too muych walking involved, maybe at the interconnection between Alpine Express I and II, but we are talking maximum 150 metres...
