Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I just stumbled across this site, http://www.eapsi.org, and I am a little speechless. It declares itself as a rival to BASI, PSIA etc, and the exams appear to be mainly based on upload shaky low res video of yourself skiing terribly.

Is anyone involved with this? Has anyone ever got a job with these qualifications!?

Link works if you take off the comma at the end.
Didn't go much beyond the first page, but as every line on that page was embedded with things along the line of " cheap fake handbags*cheap replica watches*fashion replica handbags
,breitling watches*rolex watches||dior handbags " there's something rather odd going on!

The other option is that someone is going to be asked for money... which is neither trolling nor serious, but fraud.

BTW - for those that get easily bored: the only "meaningful" message in the video above starts at 06:30.

Also, the chief instructor is sponsored by '3Ryde' which is part of the same company, this SunShineWorld holiday company seems to specialise in holidays in Eastern Europe. All sounds very fishy

Company looking to train instructors on the cheap maybe? Though think the website should be enough to scare anyone serious off!

It was 'set-up' by Alan Garcia who runs sunshineworld. I don't think he's happy with how all of his ski instructor courses have been conducted in the past, and I think that he holds the view (based on previous posts that he made on facebook) that too much of the pass/fail outcome has been up to the professional judgement of the trainer and that he doesn't see clear enough criteria on which this judgement is based. This website is the outcome of this.

Haggis_Trap, I love it, I'm going to make a video and join.

Reading the 'philosophy' part of the site, it looks like he got pissed off about failing an exam so started his own certification body.

jimmer,

I thought it sounded like a dodgy cheap "travel agency" trying to get students to do their instructor courses in eastern Europe.

Agree with you.
I hope EAPSI doesn't lure too many but there will be a few unfortunately. If they wanted to set up a legit 'Polish Association of Ski Instructors' acting and responsible for teaching standards within Poland, well why not. But by calling it the 'European APSI' etc, and with it's logo similar to the recognizable European flag, it implies something more grandiose than it obviously is - it's almost exactly i'd say, its inverse proportion!

The embedded snowflake is also pretty much identical to the ESF's snowflake award badge I got as a kid

I'd like to see someone with an EAPSI qualification turn up in France (or any other major European ski country) and try to start teaching!

That association already exists and is a full member of ISIA.

rob@rar, Thanks Rob.
In trying to find ISIA and more about its membership rules, google directs me to isiaski.org which comes up with an advertising page with various ski related purchasing options. At the page bottom it says..

'The domain isiaski.org has expired'

Am i looking in the wrong place - does anyone know?

Wikipedia says about the ISIA this.

As an international organisation for the protection and promotion of the interests of professional ski instructors (skiing and other snow sports), the ISIA supports:

Not very good if they can't keep their website up. But surely, i must be looking in the wrong place?

I'd quite like to be certified by this organisation and would wear my grizzlycorn badge with pride. Then I'd use it to scoot up the instructors only lift lines and blag proforms/pass discounts. Plus I'd be able to give it casual chat in the pub back home - yeah I'm a ski instructor aint no big deal.

I'd also hope that they offer an official purple onesie as their uniform, even better if it's go random chequerboard and swoosh flashes.

That logo knocks the BASI logo into a cocked hat. I'm especially taken by the colours and the inconsistent use of capital letters.

Your ISP probably uses caching. The domain was updated today but the expiration date is on the 2nd dec, so it probably expired on the 2nd and was renewed this morning when it was noticed.
