Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We are two intermediate to advanced snow lovers, one boarder, one skiier. we require plenty of reds and some blacks. We want to stay in a resort that is highly likely to have decent snow conditions. accessible to plenty of pistes to fill our 3 days. A picturesque resort with a few bars, cafes, shops would be nice but wild nightlife not neccessary. Suggestions would be most welcome!

christill, welcome to Snowheads snowHead

That range gives you some good options; Flaine and Avoriaz would be very easy to reach but not especially picturesque. When are you thinking of as that will determine where is likely or less so to have the conditions you're after - it may be possible to have all the features but your budget and travel would also have an effect

christill, 3 days as opposed to a full week provides accommodation problems but we have a boys long weekend in Morzine every year which resort fits your requirements (although the skiing is probably more blue/red than red/black in the main) and will cater for weekenders etc. Welcome snowHead

Verbier, Avoriaz, Argentiere (Chamonix in general). Probably lots of other places if early means early January.

christill, when are you wanting to go?? If pre December I'd leave it late and follow the snow and also resort opening times will vary pre-Xmas

Verbier (more like 2 hours) or Chamonix may be worth considering

Yes, the 3 days will be an issue and often doesn't work out to be very cost-effective for either you or the owners (if it's a long weekend, cutting across two letting weeks for example)

christill, do you mean 20-23 Dec as per your other thread? Puzzled

You could forget the picturesque bit and head for Flaine.

Morzine would be a better bet for short stay accommodation/shops/eating out/bars though.

Within the time for travel and snow. -Avoriaz, Chamonix, Les Contamines. Flaine or preferably Samoen if you don't mind taking a lift down to the town at night.

Why miss snowsure Tignes/Espace Killy for the sake of an extra 45 mins drive to Tignes Val Claret (or 30 mins if you could get fixed up in Tignes Les Brevieres) wink .....

Or you could be in Val Thorens in 2 hours and 15 minutes, driving the very scenic route via Annecy and the lake.

Having said that, we once got there in bang on 2 hours via Chambery, on the autoroute (although that route incurs more costs on tolls).
