I like and agree with a lot of that, shame about the silly stock images.

Its worse than Lizzard thinks! She forgot there was a Drift Ghost HD Action Camera on the prize list so that only leaves £250 to pay for the rest of the stunning prizes!

I had the same thoughts, but could't have articulated them like that!
Very sad decline from what used to be a fantastic, knowledgeable and (mostly) friendly community.

I am sure they are still getting their advertising and page views. Just a shame they have alienated all of their regular forum users from the irreverent seasonaire type banter and questions.
|
|
|
|
|
|
They are still *the* season website; the sponsorship, marketing budget, talks, cooking courses and of course job adverts ensure that workers still go there first, and because of that so do employers, and so the cycle continues.
What has really died is the forum ('chat room') and although fun and a great resource I doubt it amounted to much in the site value. It seemed that forum users rarely visited other parts of the site, and the natives team rarely participated in the forum. Anyway, my point is that a community died, not a recruitment agency.

albinomountainbadger, I don't know - you're seeing a lot more advertising on the likes of ski-jobs.co.uk and seasonnaire.com these days. I would be interesting to know whether they're really still getting the traffic and ad revenue. Not that they're likely to tell us, obviously.

^ For any internet site it is regular traffic that
1) Keep advertisers paying
2) Keeps your SEO ranking high
A forum / community is one way to keep your web site busy, and thus indirectly, profitable
Natives used to be a great site and was way ahead of its time in the early days of the internet (circa 1999-2005).
I even wrote a few articles for them back in the day... FWIW I am pretty sure Iain Martin did the right thing financially by selling Natives 5 years ago : cant imagine he is too upset. Though who ever bought natives.co.uk certainly hasn't developed or taken it forward in any way during the last 5 years. As good as dead now...

Lizzard, ad revenue can't have been great, remember the banner ad for a beanie with a false beard attached? Doubt they had much to spend!! Sure natives must have noticed new competition and diminished traffic, but I'm just saying that, to me at least, recruitment was always their core business and the website is part of that, not all of it. The people I know with seasonal businesses aren't aware f recent developments either, and if recruiting their first instinct will be to call natives. I guess that's a generational thing that won't last though.

Down the years I reckon those of us on the forum helped 'newbies' prepare for their first seasons - we tended to be brutally honest! Haven't been on the site in a while myself, though.

marcellus, I went on recently to pimp the salary table and was amazed that the kitchen guy has the patience to post so much on there - clearly the crappy CAPTCHA nonsense is just to prevent normal people from posting.
