Poster: A snowHead

Suggestions on another thread got me looking at websites and wondering about Chile for late August next summer. Anyone been? As an all inclusive is maybe more than I would typically spend on a headline price... But suspect it would even out (am reliant on stand by ticket to get there though so may never happen!).

I have been working there for the last 3 years, it's amazing and I would really recommend it. The bunkrooms (Inca lodge) are pretty good value as you really don't need to spend any extra money (apart from the bar), you get to use all the regular hotel facilities as well.

Hi - not sure where you are travelling from but there were direct flights from Madrid to Santiago when I went
I would spend a night (or 2) in Santiago - I enjoyed it
We split the trip between Valle Nevado and Portillo resorts - both were enjoyable
If you fancy a bit of instruction they you could try these guys (they are what I would call real skiers) they normally have a trip to Chile

The ski area is mainly only open to guests at the only hotel - don't expect a village - so it is not busy
There were quite a few European ski teams there when I was there doing summer training
It was fun

Getting there is a pain but well worth it. If you're lucky the lake is frozen which opens up more terrain. But anyway plenty of fun to be had if you are adventurous

That's me in the slingshot photo!
1gunsalute, they now have a path through the rocks back from lake run, so you can ski it even when the lake isn't frozen. Still wish the lake froze more to make touring easier though.

Thanks all - my eldest at least thinks this is a much better idea than camping in France! We will want to do long haul bit from London to make best of my tickets. Will investigate routings/ how feasible it will be in peak of summer hols.

I have been. IMO Termas de Chillan is much better. They changed the name of the place its now http://www.nevadosdechillan.com/
August is winter high season everywhere in South Amnerica. Lots of Americans,Brazillians.
I posted a number of time on here about the various resort down there. If you do a search under my handle or pm me.
Santiago is great city but you need to be careful what part of town you wander about in. Reccomend the Marriott , take no notice of the prices I picked up room
here for $50 a night near the top floor. Fantastic views

I am late to this forum, and new to Snowheads, but as I have lived and skied in Chile for 37 years, I should be able to clear up most doubts which you may have still have about a late August trip. This is a great time to come, the weather is warm, more blue skies, and greenery covers much of the normally dry central zone of Chile. As for skiing, you should be able to go anywhere and enjoy it, in particular the normally more stormy southern resorts.
How long are you coming for? Would you like a tour, or just a one area trip? I can set you up with lodging in a ski in/out apartment plus more in La Parva, where you don´t need a car and can ski the 3 valley ski areas (40+ lifts, check it out here https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/444532). Otherwise, I can recommend other options depending on what you are looking for.
