Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Train from Zurich to St Anton

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We are flying to Zurich in Dec and taking the train to St Anton. If I pre-buy train tickets online I am a little concerned that if the flight is delayed we could possibly miss the booked train and have to buy more tickets for the next available train. So my question is, does anyone know if you can just turn up and buy the train ticket from the airport on the day and if so, does it cost more than pre-buying online and would availability ok? many thanks

Bezzer, Welcome to Snowheads. I did that journey a couple of years ago and from my memory you don't have to tie yourself down to a particular train (although it's probably cheaper if you do). It's also worth checking whether it's best to book via Swiss or Austrian Rail. I found Austrian best for my daughter (15 at the time) and me. I would guess you can just buy tickets at the station and December isn't likely to be too busy unless it's Christmas or New Year.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thank you, hadn't crossed my mind to look up the journey via Austrian train line, so will take a look at that too.

When I did it it was a lot cheaper if you booked specific non transferable train times. I booked through the swiss one. Was very cheap that way, 40 return I think.

Thanks everyone, have just looked up the Austrian train service OEBB and can get a flexible ticket for the same price as the non-flexible ticket on the Swiss train site....great result Very Happy

It's a great way to get to St Anton from Zurich. Did it a couple of years ago. Very easy and time for a pre-train beer at Zurich HB too Toofy Grin

As we didn't fly home until Sunday we skied all day on Saturday which was blissfully quiet and got an early evening train back staying in Zurich overnight. Only downside was that the train was full of well oiled lads who had spent rather too long in the Mooserwirt. Most had got off though before the train crossed back into Switzerland.
