Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lots of work has being going on over the summer. Pylons 4 and 5 have been completely refurbished as part of a long term restoration programme for the entire lift. The pylons have been grit blasted and painted in situ from a scaffold tower. Meanwhile the arm assemblies and their fenders have been removed and galvanised. These pylons together with P3 are now in as good a condition as 40 years ago – when they were new. Just 6 more towers to go!

The main electric motor was taken down in May and the slip rings replaced. It has now been reinstalled. Elsewhere on the hill a new webcam will look down from P3 at ‘Sunset Boulevard’ and the home runs, hopefully giving a more optimistic view of snowcover than the somewhat pessimistic ‘hut cam’. Laughing

Other work includes a large gabion wall to hold back a Tsunami of peat which was slowly engulfing the day lodge bridge pier. Elsewhere maintenance to buildings has taken place, grass cutting, drainage and the top fence has been rebuilt again, this time with much stronger horizontal railings after being crushed last year from the weight of drifted snow.

We ran the tow on about 25 days last year, some of which were quite superb, particularly in late March and early April. It would be nice to get some more of that this year. snowHead

Season ticket sales now finished.....but you will still be able to buy day tickets for all but the busiest days.

In the meantime here is a really nice promotional video about the north Pennines around Alston. Professional quality footage of yadmoss from last season at 1.00.
