Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What ski's should I buy???

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi all, I've been skiing a few times now and can confidently ski reds and can get down blacks. I've hit the stage where I would like to purchase my own skis and I'd like some advice on which ones to get as there is such a huge range out there. I'm male, short (165cm) and I'm quite heavy at 85kg. Most of my skiing is on piste but I am a fan of having a play around off piste occasionally. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should be looking at please?

Thanks!

I'm a similar size, if not a bit heavier at the minute! and I've had k2 public enemy's as an all mountain ski for a few years and they've been pretty much indestructible. K2 don't make the PE any more but their Domain and Recoil seen to be targeting the same skier.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you are anywhere near a snowdome Elis Brigham will probably be running some ski demo nights pretty soon, go try a load of skis out and see what you like!

I really think you should wait. Nowadays the carriage on airlines is up to £20/30 each way then you have services and you should have one at beginning of hols and after so they are preserved properly.

Plus technology just changes so rapidly.

Hire them - it is about the same cost and they wont be old tech in 3 years and you wont have to drag 'em around.

Spend the money on good boots instead mate.

ah yes hiring skis - perfect for the person who doesn't care what they are skiing on or doesn't have any specific requirements.

OP in your shoes I'd look at starter all-mountain skis in 80-90 mm waist a bit of tip rocker, be prepared to go a bit longer to compensate for rocker and any twinning of the tail. No great brand preferences but as a relatively heavy guy I'd say check out Head, Atomic and Movement at least.
