Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Weight of ski boots

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Im currently getting into park skiing and noticed that my boots feel so much heavier than my skis. My boots are from about 1995 ( I know, I know they're going to explode) and are Salomon Equipe race boots.

Ive been wondering if there is a big difference in weight of ski boots nowadays due to new plastics etc?

Also is there such a thing as a 'freestyle' boot especially designed for the park?

Having read so much about exploding boots Im getting tempted to bite the bullet and get a new pair but wondering what I should be looking at. If Im in the mountains Im normally hunting powder, trees and steeps but like I said Im getting into all the park things now especially jumping so would like something lighter if possible as I want to get higher!.

Yep, Full Tilts are very light. They seem to be aimed at park skiers, I'd say they are well worth a look for anyone.

sah, full tilts were originally, as Raichle, aimed at racers...

Yes, even now the inside of the boots say "Flexon" which was the Raichle name, I guess it's built in to the lasts which FT bought from Raichle.

They still make the same old Flexon Comp only it's now called the Classic (which I have and it's excellent), they do a variety of boots, although apart form differing tongue flex they are all pretty much the same just with different colours. They seem to market the more flexible ones at park rats and the stiffer ones at "all mountain" skiers. It seems the only thing they have changed is to sell intuition liners with them, and some (e.g. the Seth) have rubber soles which look pretty good.

I'd ignore the marketing, if they suit your feet they are worth trying however/wherever you ski, but if you want a light boot they should be top of your list, they are much lighter than most regular boots I've tried.

Can't help you with the money, but surely there's no dilemma? Good boots are way more important than ego cams.

medlington, i'm not convinced there's generally a huge difference in weight until you get into the crossover AT boots

Yeah I know boots are more important than a cam but I do have a pair already and it ruins my plans. The year before last was new skis, last year new snowboard and boots even though I was after a GoPro then and thought oh well Ill put it off till next year. Now I want new boots so will have to put it off again until the next thing takes priority next year and I never end up getting one.

Think I need to persuade my friend that his GoPro 2 isnt good enough compared to the new one and try to buy that off him cheap.
