Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Season roundup?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Anyone know of a good source that summarises conditions / weather for various seasons and mountain areas?

eg would good to see a 2013-14 Season Roundup mixing subjective / objective observations.

I'm NOT talking just histograms of snow depths..

With the mass of data in this thread, surely some diligent / SH with time on their hands could do the honours..?

I'll start.

My objecive & subjective take on the winter in the Shiribeshi area on the island of Hokkaido, northen Japan.

Total snowfall at village level in Higashiyama, Niseko Resort Area (~ 300 m)

13.58 m (535")

The mean for the 8 winters I've been measuring is 14.27 m (562").

So slightly below "average" Wink

Late November into mid-December we had three rain events which wiped out the snowpack down low. Took a while for all the sasa (bamboo grass) to be covered up.

Biggest change this winter was the increase in wind events resulting in lift closures and sometimes whole resort closures.

Despite the above, the powder was excellent.

I skied 100 days, of which 63 were knee deep or deeper powder days.

Not many areas in the world that have that consistency.
