3 weeks ago today I snapped my ACL in a very mundane way. Stepping off my bicycle to avoid plowing into three tourist riding abreast towards me on a flat trail, I stood on a stone and rolled my knee. With visits to doc and MRI and doc again, my ACL is busted and the joint is actually bruised
Starting Physio tomorrow, looking at skiing gently this winter and getting it operated on in the spring.

Idris, Contact Jonathan Bell on here for advice when you get the results of the MRI. The bone bruise will hurt more than the ACL. JB is one of the best specialist knee surgeons in the UK and he's a keen skier as well as a snowHead.
I was back on skis 5.5 months after a revision involving reconstructing the ACL and LCL and meniscus damage. I would think being as fit as you are the prognosis for an early return is good. As soon as the initial swelling is down and you have full ROM see whether they can operate. You are in a good place for it that's for sure!

Jesus, and here I was wondering when the season would kick off (because it doesn't kick off until you or BobinCH post your first pics of Cham skiing). Really sorry to hear about the ACL

Tough luck.
Been following your TRs for 10+ years (when natives.co.uk was still cool!)
Ironic to do it in such a mundane way.
You are obviously strong and will make a quicker come back than most.
Though if it needs an op perhaps best to get it over and done with IMVHO.
Learn to play the guitar or something new ?

......suspects Idris's definition of skiing gently is mildly less serious exposure and slightly fewer hiked laps.
Sorry to hear of the freak accident - think I finally popped my already tattered ACL with a slightly more forced standing bike dismount a number of years ago. Remember lots of people manage without ACLs for at least a while if their knee physique is strong.

That sucks big time but maybe the time has finally come for you to take up mono-skiing or curling. Get well sooner.

Oh hell, sorry to hear that.
My experience from a couple of years ago: bust ACL mid-September, operation end of Oct, skied blue runs gently with a brace end of Feb. Not really recommended, although the doc was ok with it. Went to Chile in August and skied full-on for two weeks...but it did hurt in the second week.
Maybe get the op right away and ski in March-April?
All the best!

Today was first proper Physio visit after a round of Docs, Xrays and MRI.
I had skied every month since November 05, this September will be the first month I've not skied
I should be back on the planks in January according to the Physio, but I'm aiming for season opener..

That sucks. As other have said, you could get the op done now and squeeze some skiing in by the end of the season but probably best to see how you get on without and then sort yourself out at the end of the season.
Good luck with the physio!

Idris, Bad luck
Keep us updated on the physio program ? There is a lot of stuff on here documenting recovery after surgery but not much (that I found) for those wanting to rehab it with physio.

You don't need knee ligaments - this is the 21st century, for God's sake, we've evolved beyond that.
Just get on your bike and build up your quads.

Idris, Hope you're good to go in Jan. Good luck for the rest of the rehab. Loads of pistol squats on the other leg is my advice. You should see some deferred muscle build up in the effected leg. Plus the 'good' leg will be stronger when it comes to skiing and may take some of brunt of the forces involved.

Hi, Idris, How are you doing? Didi you hit the opening?
I've "done" my ACL on December 31st in Nassfeld (Austria). Have canceled La Grave (due next week), waiting for OP as soon as possible and looking forward to next season... I've figured out I do not want to mess up my knee more than it already is (and at42 I'm also not as strong to relay on quads only
