Poster: A snowHead
|
As usual looking forward to the winter games which is bang in the middle of my 2 planned trips to the Alps, that way my fix can be virtually uninterrupted. Enjoy most of the disciplines (even skiing) and especially love the freestyle and boardercross. Like the skiing thing with the rifles too. Just hope we get decent coverage on terrestrial TV. Who'll you be keeping an eye on?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

When I spoke with Graham Bell the other week he mentioned that broadcasting rights had not yet been agreed for Sochi, that may have changed recently but whatever they are leaving it all a bit late.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You can watch the thing with rifles or Biathlon to give its name, every week on Eurosport. And you're right, it's very good - 'proper' athletes!

Fair enough Any ideas of what happens if it's not ready in time? I also heard somewhere that Sochi is going to be the most expensive in Olympic history..

Think BBC always have the rights as its a reserved free-to-air event until at least 2018

thought the reserved free to air rights meant certain events were restricted to main terrestrial channels (not necessarily BBC, although they do tend to have most of them).
Think C4 picked up some? Paralympics?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I think there are 2 parts...
It's not exactly clear about which home provider is picking up their side
Though the home terrestrial channels get bragging rights, because of the above point nobody actually has confirmed that they will be showing the events.

A friend of mine has signed a contract to commentate for the BBC in Sochi. I think for 3 weeks.

Tarquin, don't have eurosport but i like to watch most events when they're in something serious like the Olympics.
ansta1, There hasn't been any advertising yet but I guess its still early. I think the beeb need to wrap up the rights (if they haven't already) soon and start plugging it, get us in the mood...
