Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Off Piste in PdS?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Anyone got any guides, websites or other sources of info on off-piste in the Portes du Soleil?

Pistehors has a little mention of a powder bowl above Chatel, but that's about it.

Guides Vamos have books for the 3Vs, 2A and other areas, but not the PdS.

Any suggestions of where to look to allow further investigation?

feef, no, not really. The PDS doesn't get powder, due to an unfortunate and unusual microclimate.

You are far better off with the madding crowds up the Grands Montets. Or in St Anton.

The bowl above Chatel is also rubbish and involves a long walk out.

feef, could be!

There is a French site that details some very interesting routes but for the life of me I can't recall it. Try searching around rando morzine.

Most of the easily accessible hp is so obvious you don't need a book, if you know what you're up to. Hence it isn't written up anywhere. I think.

feef, here we go, and a fine example of what I was talking about. Delighted to find that they've named a rock face after an old friend. http://www.chablais-grimpe.com/skirando/commonphp/raide_topo.php?f=0&slope=nyon_rolandbaud&id_region=bossetan
