That Roche de Mio video looks quite scary early on and I was thinking "where on earth is he" but then I realised the helmet cam distorts things badly - I've skied that many times and it's not scary at all in real life
If he'd stayed on the ridge a little bit longer and walked up to the left for 5 mins he could have had a MUCH better run in a fabulous bowl behind

I was trying to figure out the logistics of where he was. Is that a ridge running down parallel to Inversions run?

thefatcontroller, have a look at the piste map, the ridge is on there, go along it a bit and ski down, or as Plake says go further and up and have a whole bowl just to yourself.

Shed loads of snow falling today - huge fat flakes right down to the valley

Agreed, plenty fell today, sun even came out briefly at 5pm. Very sad to be going home tomorrow, wish I was skiing here instead.

Stunning days skiing here today in La Plagne, angle deep powder on piste and knee deep powder just to the side of the piste.
visibility wasn't great this morning but cleared up this afternoon.
More snow forecast for tomorrow, wednesday and thursday so looking good for those coming out at half term

under 3 weeks to go before we head off to Plagne (March 16th). What's the snow conditions looking like currently?

Really good. We've had bucket loads of snow over the last few weeks and then sunshine at the moment. You should have a good week I think!

It has been another beautiful day today with probably 99% of the pistes and lifts open and the queues haven't been that bad considering it is one of the busiest weeks of the season.
More snow is forecast for Wednesday and it looks like there could be a load more over the weekend

Problems on the Champagny gondola this morning so nobody is getting up to the main ski area. Lots of scratching of heads, plenty of puzzled looking people looking into control panels and even more scratching of heads.
They can give no idea of when it will be fixed which is unfortunate as it is probably the busiest day of the season so far.
But at least they are offering free refreshments at the Club Alpina whilst people wait.

skichampcouk, Bummer!
Crazy weather out there. Top of Grand Rochette in thick cloud, but above that at Roche de Mio it looks wonderful

I think it is due to clear up this afternoon so hopefully the gondola will be working by then.

Oh no - hopefully it carries on working!
Was out yesterday and quite a lot was slow opening up in the morning - although I think that was more snow related than maint. It was stunning yesterday with lots of nice fully powder - sore legs today!
Happy powder day

skichampcouk, Does that happen often? IF La Plagne Montalbert gets it's Gondola we will be in the same position as Champagny, (i.e. no lift no skiing) but SAP have said that the Champagny Gondola very rarely breaks down....

boredsurfin, No, it hardly ever breaks down. Yesterday morning was very unusual and the longest I have known it out of action since we have had a place here, it was down for around 2.5 hours. I was told it was out of action for under 1 hour earlier in the season but that is all I know of this season.

offpisteskiing, Busy? Yes, today was something.
This was the state if play today at 15.22 at Bellecote.
Queues for Arpette, Blanchette and Colosses all merged into one.
Tomorrow the sun is forecast all day: could be bedlam.
You were definitely on the right place today.

Jonpim, came through there at 1550 on way back to champagny... Fortunately I have a slight advantage when it comes to queues...
|
|
|
|
|
|
Jonpim, Those queues are better than in the late 90's! IF the Montalbert gondola is refused permission, the existing Colosses 4 man chairlift out of Bellecote will become an 8 man next Christmas As I understand it, IF the lift company in Montalbert can overcome rare bird and plants and goes ahead Colosses will be replaced Christmas 2015.
offpisteskiing, Surely using Belle Plagne chair and Col de Forcle drag lift would be quicker to Champagny thus avoiding Bellecote all together!

Do you people expect next week to be less busy?

Yes, it is only zone A of the 3 zones of France on holiday next week so it should not be as busy, there is still some accommodation left in our village next week. However zone A includes Grenbole and Lyon and the surronding area so there could be a lot of locals around.
