Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

JimboS, the reason the learner slope on the Jungfrau is so short is that there is a Crevass just beyond the extent of the slope, family friends used to own the concession there and the piste basher was used to pile the snow at the end to prevent people going another 10M over the crevass, given that at that point the glacier is over 1000ft deep going into a crevass there would not be a good move, you can only see evidence of the crevass at the very end of the warmest summers when the snow bridge over it tends to sink into it somewhat or on rare occasions actually gives way in places, leaving gapping holes

Nice trip - my first ever skiing experience was on the Jungfrau glacier followed by the mighty Bebington Oval. The view toward Prenton Park not quite as stunning.

The old man is actually Helmuth "Heli" Frühwirt the inkeeper of the Maiskogelalm aka Heli's Hütte which can be reached with the Maiskogelbahn. The UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup was held in 1995, 2001 & 2002 on the Maiskogel...

I really cant see past the alps for any holiday, Winter, Easter and Summer. We went to Sorrento last summer, 10 days of 38 degC, it was torture, never again.
We were on holiday for two weeks this time but wish we had been there for a month, there is just so much to do.

Ghost Dog, Last Friday it was there...
Maybe it was flattened and has been rebuilt, but from what I could see it looked like they were renovating what was there rather than demolishing and starting again. In fact, the toilets were the same toilets, although they were accessed from a different direction... So, I doubt that they were completely demolished and then rebuilt.
I can't say for sure that the building was or wasn't "totally demolished" though as I haven't been up there every day since May!
Anyway, yes, it's being renovated. There is information about it on the hintertuxergletscher website.
The Spannagelhaus has been demolished and is being rebuilt. The artist's impressions of the new building look very different from the old hut that was there.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

SaraJ has a photo of the building work -and of the glacier- in her blog, Alpine Freedom (maybe she didn't want to self-advertise ).

Here is what it looked like a few weeks back, poor picture quality due to the scratched perspex in the gondola.
It looked like everything but the basement had gone.
