Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

George Lazenby (007, 1969) returns to James Bond's most famous ski location

Over 43 years after filming there, the actor George Lazenby (Bond for one movie only) has returned to the Schilthorn above Murren in Switzerland - 'Piz Gloria' in the movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service - to open 'Bond World'.

It's a new attraction themed on the most significant ski action in a Bond movie.

Excellent article on the making of 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', by Ian Sadler ...

http://iansadler.wordpress.com/2012/08/27/musings-on-bond-at-50-on-her-majestys-secret-service/

Quote:
One of the new hands involved with On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was cameraman Willy Bogner Jr, a former Olympic downhill racer. Bogner’s role was to coordinate and filmed Bond’s escape from Piz Gloria and in the process he created the best ski chase of any Bond film, possibly all films. Though Bogner would return to direct snow sequences for The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only and A View To A Kill his masterpiece remains Bond’s flight from Blofeld’s lair. Bogner achieved his remarkable footage, including 007 fleeing on a single ski, by travelling backwards on special skis whilst filming.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Comedy Goldsmith, a bit slow with this one, non?

And why the Roller? I am sure there's at least one Aston Martin in Switzerland...

The opening of Bond World was three days ago, while I was walking a coastal footpath in South Devon, blissfully unaware of international Bond action (helicopter flying around a Swiss summit etc.). It's at times like these that global ski news reportage fails abysmally ... you're right.

Planetski was my source. According to their story (of yesterday Monday), 300 guests were present at the launch, presumably including journalists. It's amazing the lack of coverage the event has had - almost complete silence - given that it's a really brilliant story with so much background interest. Maybe they weren't journalists, but were just there for the drinkies!

Meanwhile, George Lazenby (famous for being known only for filming a chocolate commercial before becoming 007) continues to make the news on other fronts ... 43 years after being Bond! ...

OHMSS Still remains one of my favorite bond films, in that it shows Bond to be more than capable of doing the job without lots of complicated gadgets, plus it's filmed in a brilliant location, my parents had the opportunity to be in the crowd scenes in Lauterbrunnen as they were there at the time of filming, but choose not to go down, it would have been nice now they have both passed away to have still been able to see them over and over again in a location they both loved.

Comedy Goldsmith, thanks for this. My parents are over visiting at the moment so might have a trip here this weekend.

For those that know the area, and to help plan the day, can you get off the cable car up from Stechelburg and wander round Murren for a while before rejoining the lift up to Schilthorn (or the same but on the way back down?)

Preferred the opening scene from "The spy who loved me" personally.

Whitters, yes, you have to change cablecars at Murren anyway so no problem going for a wander as far as I recall

jafa, can't disagree about that opening scene

OK which clever people can tell me what other Bond films have shot sequences in the area, I'm told 3 in total (including OHMSS) but other than OHMSS I only know of one other for certain - And the one I know of for certain is not listed in the Wiki of location shoots for that film Shocked

This Swiss news site has a sweet and quite funny interview with George Lazenby at the opening of Bond World on the Schilthorn last Saturday ...
