Poster: A snowHead
|
So I am just chilling in Santiago before heading to Portillo for the season, currently not able to go up as the road is closed due to too much snow. Not much to do so I thought I would share a video I made in Japan. It's from a trip to Asahidake (an active volcano in central Hokkaido) I went on in February, the weather was terrible and we only got to ski 2 days, but still had a fun trip.

Also, if anyone is interested in seeing how the season goes in Chile, I'll be posting at least twice a week on my blog, www.jameswinfield.tumblr.com There'll be a lot of Portillo on there, but hopefully going to compete in the FWQ in El Colorado and maybe get another trip in as well.

Enjoyed the vid. Camera?
And what size monitor do you have? Some of those pics are massive.

Cheers, it was shot on Sony compacts (HX9V and RX100) and GoPro 3s.
Yeah I need to tweak my tumblr settings a bit because big images turn out absolutely massive, haven't really paid much attention to it before, but I am going to try and make it a bit better this season.

Interesting stuff and some good pics - I've bookmarked you and will keep reading!
You're 'only' a level 3 in the NZ system. Are you going to be teaching in South America? Will this be with a school or privately? How easy was it for you to find work? How's your Spanish - and was this important to your employers? What kind of clients do you expect to be teaching? How was the life with your recent Japanese employers - lots of other foreign instructors there (assuming you're the same James Winfield that pops up on google). Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I'm really interested in getting a glimpse into your lifestyle.

Swissie, thanks!
jiagedaping, It's my 3rd season down here, yes I teach for the school in Portillo. It's quite hard to get a job, basically you need to be fully certified and be pretty decent at Spanish, some connections help as well. The clients are typically Brazillian in July, US in August and a mix in September. Japan's great, amazing snow, lots of work, nice town to live in.

jimmer, looking forward to hearing about Chile as it's on my radar for summer 2014 unless a buyer for my property suddenly pops up before this August.
